Should Avery Johnson be Fired?

Quote:
As discussed in this cyberspace on multiple occasions already my only skepticism regarding the wisdom of parting with five players, two first-round picks and $3 million to reacquire Kidd -- as well as the extra $11 million it'll cost Mavs owner Mark Cuban this season after his first trade with New Jersey collapsed -- was Avery-related. As in: Will Avery ever really be able to restrain his controlling instincts and relinquish lead decision-maker status offensively? Now that's only one of the questions confronting Johnson entering Game 6 of the new Kidd Era at home Friday against Sacramento. You inevitably wonder what sort of messages Avery transmitted to Kidd, when they're just building a relationship, by holding him out of a such a high-profile finish on national TV. If you're a serial optimist, by contrast, perhaps you're wondering whether Dallas can come out of all this unexpectedly fortunate, based on the idea that such an ill-conceived coaching decision happening so soon after the trade will generate such an outcry in Big D that Johnson winds up backing off faster than expected.

No.

Re: Should Avery Johnson be Fired?
Debatable, coming from a Dallas fan - he's been given a good team which pretty much hands him a good regular season record - but his strategic decisions in playoff atmosphere games have shown he's overmatched against Riley, Nelson, Pop, etc.
Whether Cuban has the time and money to let him learn on the job is up to him.

Re: Should Avery Johnson be Fired?
I would say Avery Johnson is expendable. He does well in the regular season, but that's mainly because he has always had a very talented team. He has been outcoached in the playoffs every season he's been there.

Re: Should Avery Johnson be Fired?
Well Avery is in a bad situation then because Kidd isn't taking them to a championship. If Cuban thinks they are, then fire away, but every other coach in the league would lose with that group as well.

Re: Should Avery Johnson be Fired?
No, he made the correct decision. Kidd is an atrocious shooter and his playmaking abilities in a half court set aren't nearly what they are in a more open scenario. Just because Kidd is one of their better players doesn't make him a part of every possible play.
