chris paul - best season by a PG since?
paul has been incredible this year. for the stat lovers, his PER this year is 27.6 which ties oscar robertson for highest by a PG ever. magic's best was 27.0 i'm not saying he's better than magic, but still that says a lot.
if paul keeps playing this way till the season ends, then his year would be the best by a PG since when? payton? magic?

Yeah you can. Really easily. Look at who he was competing against. Look at who was on his team. Look at both sides of the ball.

Paul is having an incredible year. One of the best a PG has had in a long time. It's amazing how well this guy is playing at such a small height.

There is no stat for defense, which he excels at sucking in.

Re: chris paul - best season by a PG since?
Magic Johnson. Same type of effectiveness on offense at least statistically. But if he keeps this production up and is given a consistent and decent supporting cast, he should be a great playoff leader and player as well. If he stays healthy he is on his way to becoming the next great PG.
Payton because of his defense was the last excellent PG, but his offense was never as good as Paul's is right now IMO. Paul just looks more smooth and dynamic on offense. If you factor defense and longevity then I guess you could say Payton was the last great PG, but Paul is easily more impressive on offense now then Payton ever was.

Payton was great, and definately underrated/forgotten.

Re: chris paul - best season by a PG since?
Even if Payton, Kidd, Stockton didn't have as high PERs, it's not a perfect stat (look at Amare's), plus they were all much better defenders.
