I can't think of a year when we've seen so much mid-season tweaking among contending teams - not in 30 years of following the NBA closely.

I assume it's a sign of how competitive the league is right now. Several teams in the West believe they have a shot at recalibrating enough to get past the Spurs, and the Spurs know they can't afford to sit tight. And despite the Celtics' strong start, the East is a wide-open race between two and possibly three teams (depending on how you like Cleveland's modifications).

I think the Gasol trade had more to do with other teams making (counter) moves, the Korver trade was back in December.
