Dirk lost to Baron Davis.
We all know Baron Davis is one helluva point guard. If Baron was healthy his whole career people would be talking about Baron Davis as perennial all-star top 10 player. He has that type of talent.

I don't see Kobe captaining great defenses with crappy personnel.
I'm a Laker fan and Kobe's defense is good when he wants it to be. HE definitely focuses on offense which is his primary role. Just because he defends Dwayne Wade for one regular season game this year I'm not ready to give him defensive jedi status for this year. Lebron has turned into a solid defender. How could he not be? He is a beast at everything else ala Kobe.
I don't see Kobe as a better defender then LEbron James if you count their impact on the court.

Uh.
The Wizards were down their top two scorers, missing approx 45points a game right there. The Pistons imploded.
Their defense didn't do much vs. San Antonio. So...

Re: The MVP Double Standard
The only problem I have with this analysis is that it assumes that LeBron has had ANY help whatsoever in the past few seasons. His wingman was Larry-I-shoot-less-than-40%-on-most-nights Hughes! Drew Gooden or Lamar Odom? Big Z or Bynum? Radmonovic or Gibson? Fisher or do they have a pg? The fact of the matter is that when someone like Sczerbiak is a huge upgrade on your roster, then you have a ****ty roster! LBJ isn't a bad defender, or even average, he keeps having to get out of rotation because his teammates can't guard anyone!
I still don't see why Kobe gets put on All-Defensive teams, he doesn't even guard the best offensive player on the other team! Yeah, it's real easy to shut down Bowen, but how about Parker or Ginobili and then guard Dirk? I don't know why I'm suddenly digressing to Marion, but he should be DPOY.
As for MVP, LBJ is legit. He and CP3 are the obvious choices right now. Those dudes are too good!
Kobe is really good, but the whole Lakers TEAM is dominating and look really good when he sits out. They don't need Kobe in the game to win. Don't get me wrong, he's one of the best players of all time, but they don't need him, they have so much talented big men that they can get the job done. Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol!?!? Add to that mix Radmonovic who's 6'10, Turiaf who gives nothing short of 110% every second and great role players in Walton, Fisher, and Vujacic and you have a great team without Kobe!

Actually he does more often than not.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
I still stand by my statement that if Kobe doesn't win it this season, he never will. And if he doesn't win it, but the Lakers make it to the Finals and win, then we all know who the real MVP is, anyway.

If Kobe finishes with the best record, he'll take the award.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
Kobe deserves the MVP this year.
I was arguing that Kobe is not better then LEbron at defense.

The pistons imploded....great analysis.
Since the pistons imploded, Lebron's defense is below average...how do you make that connection?
And who said the Piston "imploded"? And what does "imploded" mean? Does this mean the whole team just lost their insides while on the court...hahaha too funny
I go by the whole year of Cavs defense, not just the playoffs.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
You can tell it was written by a fan of Kobe Bryant. And it's not because it's biased towards Kobe or declares him the MVP. It seems to me that the analysis on Kobe and the Lakers is very goood and seemingly pretty accurate. However, the analysis of Lebron and the Cavs is way off. It's obvious that he doesn't watch the games, but rather relies on the box scores to make conclusions.
The statement about Kelly Dwyer's article is misleading, as well. He stated in his article about the 05/06 MVP that Kobe has as good of an argument to the title as anyone.
