Re: The MVP Double Standard
I think that Lebron's D is underrated and Kobe's is overrated. Look at last year, How did Kobe make the all defensive first team last year. If many of you homers want to downgrade the MVP award because Kobe doesn't win it then you can do the same with the defensive team award.
Next, Kobe is a candidate this year, no doubt. But what would have happen if they didn't get that early christmas gift in Gasol? Would they have been in the playoff race right now in the west. My point is you need to point out the real reason for the laker's sucess right now Kobe or the Gasol trade? Also take into consideration that before they landed Gasol they lost 5 of their last 6 games. I'm not taking away from Kobe but we shouldn't make it look like the lakers are riding on the back of Kobe this year.
I got another question. If the lakers get put out in the first round theis year, how would that heart Kobe's legacy?

Re: The MVP Double Standard
Uh, Lakers were doing just fine without Gasol. And we were still keeping up even when Bynum went down.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
Lakers were 1st in the West the game after Bynum went down, all without Gasol. Kobe Bryant has been far and away their best player, pretty clearly. He makes this team go. But the supporting cast when healthy is absolutely stellar without a doubt.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
I always find it surprising that people care at all about the MVP vote. But people don't just care about it, they care enough for there to be 100+ post thread after 100+ post thread about it. It's the media. Of course its ****ed to the nines. The 'best' people the media has to offer totally blew the most important issue the country has faced since the end of the Cold War... the run-up to the Iraq War. Since then they've continued to blow it on the topic and have done everything they could to avoid the blame they so justly deserve for failing the nation. And those are supposed to be 'the best' media members. And yet, people expect the sports writers to be honest, logical and consistent? Time to grow up people, and accept the MVP vote for what it is, a vote by unimportant (and largely stupid) people which ranks which top player on a very successful team made for the best year long story. That's all it is.

So this is very similar to a Presidential election?

People care about the MVP award because it is a amjor achievment for a basketball player to get.
Peeps just can't go for that "morons/biased people vote for the award, so it's of no importance" stance.
Roberth Horry has won, like 6, championships. Will he ever be seen at the level of an MVP winner (even if the winner deserving it is questionable)? Off course not.
MVP is the greatest individual achievement a basketball player can get. So, it is taken seriously by fans.

Re: The MVP Double Standard
Horry has won 7 Championships, not 6.
