Re: Pistons vs. Cavs ?

Changing the coach and leaving the GM is like treating lung cancer by telling the victim to stop smoking. Sure, it helps, but the patient's still going to die unless you get rid of the problem (the worst GM in the NBA). I'd swear that Ferry's a San Antonio double agent planning on making a Manu for LeBron swap in a couple of years, when LBJ decides to leave in disgust.

Re: Pistons vs. Cavs ?

Yeah but you have to try a new coach before you try a new GM. It's not like the team doesn't have talent on it. It's just poorly managed on the offensive end. Brown has had 3 years to get an offense, and even before the trade he didn't really have one. Lebron is almost always playing uphill on the offensive end. And that's Brown's fault more than Ferry's.

And I do think he's going to trade some of these expirings for another star to put next to Lebron.

I read that earlier and it sounds like a bunch of bull**** to me.

There isn't some secret art to handling a teammate who gets doubled in the post. All you have to do is move. That's it. You think Cleveland is the first team that has ever had a teammate get doubled? These are NBA players, they've been playing for years. It really doesn't take 20 games to learn how to handle a double team. It takes 20 minutes in practice.

To avoid posting a player up who you think has an advantage because you are uncomfortable with the crispness in which his teammates will handle the double teams is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Yeah but then you look at the lack of motion in Mike Brown's offense, and the historically poor floor spacing, and it actually makes a terrifying amount of sense. The Cavs may be the worst offensive team ever in terms of playing off of a playmaking superstar. And I think that is the offense. Too complex, and too much holding the ball. Most of the offense is a bunch of screens off the ball, while Lebron holds it at the 3 point arc while the clock runs down. Then when that fails they run a pick and roll, where Lebron gets trapped, and has to throw an impossible cross court skip pass just to get a shot up on that possession.

It's a terrible offense.

The team is extremely talent-poor. If Memphis had held on to Gasol till the summer, Cleveland couldn't have offered a deal equal to what LA did for him. It's a giant cluster**** of a roster with two active cancers in the clubhouse. Worse still the only big contract available for free next year is likely going to be K-Mart. Cleveland fans may as well accept that James is leaving because I can't see any way that Ferry's able to pull himself out of the hole he dug.

I think you're overly negative because you hate Wally Szerbiak so much. And I don't think you're really aware of the expiring contract situation the Cavs have going into next year. It's better than it was before the trade. So I don't know what you're on about.

Re: Pistons vs. Cavs ?

I'm well aware of it. The problem is that most expiring contract deals involve actual talented young players or high draft picks, as well. I was pointing out that Cleveland has no means of matching Javaris Crittenton and two first round picks on a talent level. With the exception of another GM betting on Danny Ferry ****ing the poodle (again) and taking firsts without lottery protection back in the sure expectation of James leaving and the Cavs collapsing. If Ferry's waiting for a gift, I just don't see anyone that's going to be available for free, outside possibly K-Mart. There's just not a lot out there for free.

Re: Pistons vs. Cavs ?

Cleveland needs someone who can make life easier for Lebron. They need Gibson to come back and hit jumpers first off and then they need to coalesce defensively. After that you just pray that Lebron can save you. It's just not that good a team and right now they aren't a cohesive unit.

Why wouldn't the Milwaukee Bucks be interested in getting expiring picks and a first rounder to get out from underneath of Michael Redd's contract? I don't understand. The Cavs can't make a deal because they don't have Javaris Crittenton? What about using expirings to get Mo Williams from the Bucks? The Bucks are going to firesale this offseason to try and clear cap space and start to rebuild. Expiring contracts are going to be pretty useful, no?

The Cavs have more trade leverage than they had before the deal. Nobody was going to take Larry Hughes off of them. And Drew Gooden wasn't that hot of a commodity either.

Even if they do nothing in the summer, they'll still be adding a mid-first rounder and a few second round picks.

If the Cavs bomb out of the playoffs there will be real pressure to do something. So if nothing gets done after that, then Lebron only has a year left, and he'll just make it known he wants to go, and they'll have to trade him off for scraps.
