While I understand your point, I don't think the MVP vote should be persuaded, and influenced like that. All this is going to do is cause a slippery slope of which city can make their "candidate" the appear the best, and making the MVP an even more laughing stock than it is.
The NBA needs to restore the criteria it once used for the MVP, and not allow it to become commercial, and political like. Its ridiculous. All it matters is whether or not Chris Paul's game is good enough for MVP consideration. This year it has been, but is all the extra PR crap necessary? Do schools, rallys, organized events, and sick children really need to send love letters to the NBA explaining why him being MVP would make their lives better?

Ironically, I don't think either should get it. If you factor in team success, it should be Garnett. He has been a top 5 player, the best defender this year, and led his team to the best record. If you factor just individual greatness, it's LeBron. If Kobe wins it, it will be because the voters have a guilty conscious about robbing him of the award in the past because of his lack of team success (now that his team is good). That's not really right, but he is minus one MVP for his career, so I wouldn't complain. Paul has a nice mix of team success and individual greatness, but he hasn't been the best individual player, and his team isn't the best in the league. So anyone who votes for him is just straddling the criteria, in my opinion.

Re: Chris paul for MVP
What I am trying to figure out is why Kobe's season wasn't impressive? Considering all the injuries and still winning the West in the regular season, that wasn't impressive?

Re: Chris paul for MVP
chris paul should be third in mvp voting. no way does he deserve to be ahead of lebron or kobe(or behind any other player in the league).
of course the mvp hasn't really been able deserving it or not, so he certainly has a shot.

1. Numbers dont even come close to telling the whole story.
2. Did you really just use PER as a major reason?
3. I like how you forget about two guys named Paul Pierce and Ray Allen
