Anyone Watching The ESPN Outside The Lines On NBA Players and Money?
It's a pretty good special. They even have Tracy McGrady on here talking about how he needs to adhere to a budget now. TRACY MC...Freaking...Grady... Eitheer way, some had 60% of the players facing financial troubles within five years of getting out of the NBA. (Although, the head of the Retired Players Association said that was way too high of a number, Scoop Jackson estimates it at about 20%) But they're talking about all these players that have gone bankrupt, or are hurting financially. Pretty insane given the money they're getting.

Im more shocked with the people's reaction here. Seriously, lets say you leave with $50 million dollars, thats a fairly small amount of money when you live like a king. Its not that hard to blow when you buy multimillion dollar homes, hunderes of thousands worth of jewelries, couple of Bentley's,Ferrari's,Lambo's Mercedes AMG's sitting in your garage not to mention your close family member's,posse living at that income as well, basic necessities like utilities, foods, college etc. Some may even have a dozen of child support eating up that salary. How about insurance and taxes? those will slowly kill you if you dont have any other income to sustain your lifestyle.
Smart people can LOI, but not a lot of these players have clues nor understanding with the basic law of spending and income ratio.

Yeah. Athletes may make insane amounts of money but a lot of them also spend insane amounts of money. And the average NBA career doesn't last forever. It's even lower in the NFL.

It doesn't matter how much you make at all. It's all about how much you spend and save. If you give a poor man 2,000 or 2,000,000 he can spend it all and still have nothing left over. Those stats don't surprise me at all especially after seeing what's going down with retired NFL players.
The first thing these guys need to do is hire a financial advisor thats a total *******
