After one season as head coach of the Bobcats, ESPN.com reports that Sam Vincent was fired.
Larry Brown, of course, recently resigned from his job with the 76ers. Brown has connections to Jordan through UNC. A person has to wonder if we're in for another exciting edition of the Larry Brown Traveling Soap Opera: The Charlotte Years. I can just see it, within a month there will be rumors of him wanting to trade Gerald Wallace and Jason Richardson; he'll be starting and publicly praising Jared Dudley; he'll fight to waive Jared Dudley; he'll undermine MJ's authority ... oh, it's going to be great.
Wow... new coaches are given ONE SEASON to prove themselves, and that's it?
I think most people thought they had better talent than what their record ended up showing, and it's not unusual for the coach to be dumped when that happens. But on the other hand, Morrison missed the year; May missed the year; and Wallace missed 20 games. Those things didn't help Vincent's cause.
Brown being suddenly available probably didn't hurt either, though.
I ought to add that coaches don't always get even that. Dwayne Casey was given about half a season with Minnesota--and still had them fighting for the playoffs--when he got axed. The team went straight downhill fast at that point, too.
why does larry brown keep getting hired after continuously quitting on his employers? This guy's just living off paycheck after paycheck for doing squad. I wish Larry Brown had nothing to do with the NBA anymore, I'm so sick of hearing about this guy.

Because he's got a great basketball mind and a history of turning around teams for the better (before quitting)--he got the then-laughable Clippers to the playoffs, for gods' sake! But yeah, he's been doing that for a long time, a true nomad. And in recent stops, he's seemingly leaving things in disorder, too, and causing trouble while he's there.

Yah I'm talking about recent history. He's done nothing worth mentioning since leading the 76ers into the finals. And how come he's still deemed as valuable when just about everyone else associated with the recent New York Knicks has lost all value?:mad3

So winning the 2004 NBA title with a team that was at the time considered lacking a single true star (although since then--largely because of then--people like Billups, Hamilton and both Wallaces were given more credit) isn't worth mentioning?
I'd say any negative history he has starts after then, with the Olympics, the next Pistons season (when he opening seemed to campaign for other jobs) and of course the Knicks debacle.
Why don't they just rename the team to Charlotte Tar Heels ?
They should. There can't be a copyright issue. A lot of teams are named after "Tigers".
I think Larry Brown will be a fine choice. However, he does have the tendency of not using Rookie, and young players, and the Bobcats are full of them. This can be very interesting to see next season.
