Re: Where does Denver go from here?
I think they have the talent and Karl is not helping with the team's mindset.
For anybody not wanting to get rid of Karl, are you kidding me? What offensive sets does Denver run? How is their defense? He's a terrible, terrible X and O coach and especially so with this team.
Everyone makes this roster out to be "uncoachable" but I think that's bull****. I think Karl just suggests things for them to do while they go out there and just make their offensive sets up all day. A lot of the time I'll see bad jumpshots fired by.. well, anybody, and they just settle with that kind of offense. Damn, I mean run Carmelo or AI off some off-the-ball screens or something. Putting these guys into a Princeton or UCLA offense with a lot of ball movement could and possibly would make them the most efficient offensive team in the league.
Defensively, they have the skillset, they just absolutely suck on defensive rotations. And I mean really suck. Watching them play a team with offensive structure is murder (AKA, Lakers, Spurs, Jazz, etc).
Get Karl out of there and bring somebody in with the package to get these guys to play actual basketball, not streetball. Get Carmelo some off-the-ball screens or let Camby/Martin/Nene work in the post. It's a shame what this basketball team has turned into.

I disagree.
What we've always needed was a lead guard with "heart" who'd carry us under pressure, who could get to the basket and generate some kind of emotion. Iverson would be perfect in an iso-oriented system, I don't see how that could be denied. He'd be the quick guard we'd have to be a matchup advantage vs. San Antonio, New Orleans, etc. He'd push Dirk to the second option, which I believe he'd be better at. If we could get him I'd say it cracked the window back open a bit.
And what Denver needs is a real point guard who can distribute. I don't know why people act like Kidd is so awful, he's still good for 10+ good looks a game, and that will always be at a premium. He'll help people like Kleiza and Smith get good shots, he'll work well with JR and Martin in the opencourt, and he once again makes Anthony the undisputed number one option 82 games a year. I think Iverson's stunted Anthony's growth while he's been in Denver.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?
Iverson is simply not good enough, he needs too many shots, overdribbles and he isn't good enough of a passer to make up for his shortcomings. People are always raving about his heart and ability to score, but besides the Finals appearance he has never won jack. Our defense would be even worse with him, we would have two small guards. In a video game this might work, but it does not in real life no matter how much heart and passion he has, it's time to recognize that.

I'm not even going to touch that "win" comment.
But didn't we just have two small guards with Harris and Terry? Let's not act like it's a foreign ideal. I know Iverson isn't the defender Harris was, but we always lost the point guard matchup defensively.
Offensively is where you'll see the advantage. When was the last time we had a great scorer who could bail us out at the point guard position? Nick Van Exel. We never replaced him, and we've needed "him", philosophically ever since we've lost him. I don't know how far we expect to get with a bunch of frontrunners who don't want the ball or constantly make chokeish moves down the stretch. I've been wanting AI as a Mav for years now.

Why not ? He is 33 now, who knows how much he has left in the tank, he has already declined over the past two years. We don't need more offense, we need a change of mentality defensively because stars are having a field day against us. That is not going to change with Iverson. Unless we get a superstar without having to give up Dirk we are going nowhere and since that is extremely unlikely or impossible there isn't much we can do.
The same goes for Denver though, they are set with this core unless they blow it up, nobody is going to take on the salaries of their role players.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?
I guess we're on different wavelengths. You seem willing to blowing things up. With Dirk still in his prime, I'm still willing to keep gambling and see what'll happen. I'd rather be a perennial playoff team then the Kings right now, no offense.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?
That is exactly my point, we are well on our way to become the Kings of this generation.

Real talk. Any discussion of how to fix the Nuggets starts with Karl's firing.
