Where does Denver go from here?

Aside from firing Karl, how many changes do they make? My guess is that they'll blow the whole damn thing up or should. No one wants to take on all their crap but I'm sure some teams will be willing to take on Iverson, Camby, or Smith. Maybe some good team believes Iverson will put them over the top. Camby might look good to a team that needs a C. Smith could be a decent SG for some team out there. I don't think they'll give up on Melo yet but he can fetch the most in a deal. He just needs to grow the **** up. It's shocking to think that he and Lebron were atleast comparable just a few years ago. Martin's contract is probably too big for anyone to take on. It's just a horrendous situation. All of these players have issues but together they are just terrible. A bunch of whiny malcontents with no desire to play defense or work hard. I think now is the time to act, while some of these guys still have value.

Martin is untradeable as is Nene. Camby can be moved but for what? cap space? Iverson has a very large contract and is expiring. Gonna be hard to just move him. Besides, other than selling tickets, what does Iverson really do for your team? His days of willing a team to victory and iso-ball are done being effective.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?

jettison everyone except Melo. I still believe in him for some reason. maybe due to how he started 06-07, scoring 35+ a game, playing good defense, and hitting all those gamewinners. then Iverson came into the fold. and the Nuggets went downhill from there.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?

I also recall saying that to me this is the defining part of Iverson's legacy. Even with another top 15 player, he is still nothing but a loser. If you put this guy in the West his entire career, he would have been losing in the first round his entire career.

I think Iverson helped Melo's play decline but the question is how much? That won't be answered until him and Carmelo are split up again.

My take -

You don't fire Karl. Coach Karl was able to win, and take teams with less talent further in the playoffs. For example the Bucks. Karl took a very talented team much like this Nuggets team, to the finals. I believe the blame has to go to the players at this point. They are not even competing for pride. You can't coach losers.

If I was the Nuggets GM -

I would trade Camby, Allen Iverson, Chucky Atkins, Linas Kleiza and Carmelo Anthony.

Nuggets need to get J Oneal, Marquis Daniels from the Pacers, Gilbert Arenas from the Wizards, and Ron Artest from the Kings.

Is this at all possible ? I have no idea. But Camby is done, AI is still extremely good, but to old IMO to be the number one option, which he became because Melo couldn't handle being the main man. Carmelo a great player, but seems to melt in the playoffs at least in Denver, get him out of there and let him play else where, he's not going to take Denver to the promise land. Kleiza a great young up and comer. Great sixth man, can get buckets with the best of them in the league and a hustle guy. Move Atkins to help a trade go through.

New look Nuggets, and keep Karl as the coach, and I could see this team contending in the West.

C J Oneal/Nene
PF Kenyon Martin/Najera
SF Ron Artest/Diawara
SG JR Smith/Marquis Daniels
PG Gilbert Arenas/Anthony Carter

Edit - Also if Arenas would be unattainable, the Nuggets should think about trying to get calderon in a trade. He would be a nice fit any where.

Re: Where does Denver go from here?

If management had any balls they'd blow it up and get rid of everyone, Carmelo included. Package Martin and Melo, deal Smith and Iverson, Camby. Keep Nene and Kleiza. You should have a nice situation. Expirings, young players and picks.

I'd keep Karl, he's more proven than anyone on the roster. He's the easy scapegoat though, so he'll probably be gone.

They'll probably just keep the roster though.

Trade AI for something. Try to get shooters and a real distributor at PG.
