Re: What if Duncan were to retire after this season?
Yeah people are still underestimating Tim Duncan. They are getting blown out by a younger faster team WITH Duncan right now. Without him the rest of the West is just to young and fast. In the East they are still a playoff team but out West they are lottery bound...which is exactly what they would need.

Re: What if Duncan were to retire after this season?
I was just thinking about how much Duncan's career earning have been deflated by his timing.I think he was the first number 1 pick affected by the rookie pay scale and the max salary. If he'd come out as a sophomore or junior he'd probably have made another forty or fifty million dollars...Maybe he'd have made 200 million by now instead of 100 million.
Still he's made plenty of money and I can't see him playing after he's past his prime. He's probably going to play just as long as he has a chance to win titles...four or five more years.

I feel like Duncan only has 2 or 3 more years in him. Not that he wont be able to contribute, but I don't think he will stick around. He seems like he'd have other stuff to do...

The Hawks made the playoffs at 37-45...I think the Spurs could do that without Duncan...in the East

Re: What if Duncan were to retire after this season?
If Duncan retired after this season that would start a huge chain reaction that would knock the Spurs down pretty hard out West. So many of their roleplayers are older vets chasing rings at the end of their careers, and if Duncan left you can be for damn sure they would get out as fast as they can. Robert Horry, Michael Finley, Brent Barry, and probably Kurt Thomas too, they'd all be looking for another contender to latch onto. That would leave them without any depth really, they'd have to hope to cash in on a lot of those international picks like Splitter and others right away. I'd say they'd be lucky to be a 40 win team out West.
EDIT: And that doesn't even take into account how crippled they would be salary cap wise, Duncan just inked an extension and is owed over 80 million dollars over the next 4 seasons.

i highly doubt that. i couldn't see them winning that many games this year without duncan with parker and manu missing around 10 games each and i couldn't see it happening next year when the bottom of the eastern conference playoff picture will be better and all the spurs role players will be a year older if some of them don't retire.

this is a dumb thread. what if the sky was made of cheese?
i believe duncan is only 32. hes got 3-5 years left in him. he will depreciate but he will remain a good player.

Duncan is on the decline. Do people not see this?
