People forget that Pau Gasol was the franchise player in Memphis for many years. They had 3 consecutive seasons of 45+ wins with Gasol as the only all-star caliber player.

Pau Gasol provides the defense Boozer cannot, which makes him more valuable as a 2nd option. The height of Gasol also allows him to play Center position if necessary. This gives Gasol more versatility and adaptability to suit a 2nd option.

As good as Boozer is, and with him most likely being a superior rebounder, I would take Gasol because of defense and height.
Is this the same Pau Gasol you blasted as an overrated loser over and over again until he was traded to the Lakers?

Don't make me find and bump those threads.

Re: pau gasol or carlos boozer

Boozer is really not a second option, its more like 1A and 1B with him and Deron. Like someone said earlier, 1st option=Boozer, 2nd=Pau.

I might have jokingly criticized him. Pau Gasol has impressed immensely since coming to the Lakers.

I will admit I never saw much of his game because he played for Memphis.

Gasol is the real deal and his defensive qualities put him above Boozer in my mind.

Re: pau gasol or carlos boozer

oh man, i don't think pau has much defensive ability. he gets pushed around in the post real easliy. he even admitted that he's "not that strong."

i think lamar might be better off defending other centers.

Re: pau gasol or carlos boozer

I am sorry but Boozer should not be a first option. He is the 2nd best player on the Jazz, simply because he is not consistent game to game. Sometimes he'll have 30 and 15, then the next game drop down to 10 and 8. All-star for sure, but Gasol is better IMO. If Boozer was the #1 option on those Memphis teams, I am not even sure they make the playoffs, to be honest.

Re: pau gasol or carlos boozer

Memphis won 50 and 49 games with Pau Gasol, Mike Miller, and Shane Battier. Pau Gasol did something right obviously.

I don't think Boozer could have done anything like that with the squad they had.

Pau Gasol is more valuable because of his height and defensive presence. I admit that he gets pushed around on the block ,but at least his length allows him to play Center position and he can block shots with a 1.5 average for his career.

Pau Gasol has just started to shine in LA. Next year people will be talking about All-star Pau Gasol and NBA all honors instead of Boozer.

Re: pau gasol or carlos boozer

tough one. booz, last year, had a phenominal season, averaged 24/12 and had a great playoffs but the jazz have more offensive options now so his numbers went down and he is playing with an injury right now but pau is way more versatile and a better shotblocker... i dont know, cant go wrong with either
