It wasn't about the team, it was management consistently shopping him and he got tired of it and said for management to just do it already. He also didn't like the fact that everyone on the team was getting all NBA honors except for him. He was a better defender than Bell and a top rebounder in the league but never even sniffed all defensive teams while placing fourth one season for DPOY.
Well put.

Marion was definitely maginalized and sacrificed his numbers for the team. That being said, this contract is very fair.
Exactly, just wait til we see what David Lee and Gortat get paid before we jump to conclusions.

I think you guys are exaggerating a little bit on how much Shawn Marion "sucks". He has played 70+ games in every season since 99-00 and is still at least a 14/8 player in this league.

You give him a Batman to play Robin to and he's a 20/10 guy. I'd take the guy on a team of mine anyday. Few guys do as many things as he does on the court as well as he does. Even if his shot is a perfect example to show kids of how not to shoot a jumper.

um.. dwyane wade? chris bosh?
he is a system player, and he's not in phoenix anymore. 8 million for him is pretty fortunate.

Wade doesn't rebound as well as Marion while Bosh has less of an outside shot and can't defend 2s or 3s.
I'm not saying he's "better" than either guy but that he can fill many roles for your team. He's a glue player. The glue that fills the holes other players might have to solidify a team. Odom is another glue player. Not amazing at any one thing but great at many things but fits into a team nicely.

I think the other poster meant that Marion had Wade and Bosh as his "Batman" to play Robin on Miami and Toronto, respectively but he didn't produce 20/10. He didn't say that Marion was better than Wade and Bosh

Well it's tough to be a 20pt player when he takes 13 shots a game. He's an incredibly efficient scorer. As with wade and bosh, Marion had the last 20 games of a terrible season and was traded after half the season. So all this talk about him being a system player is garbage that is spewed by people who have no idea what they're talking about and just want to hate on the Suns.

Bad move on Toronto's end IMO. They would've done better throwing some cash at Ariza or Hedo over Marion IMO. Dude just hasn't been the same since he left the Suns.

wait what does wade not rebounding as well as marion or bosh's game have anything to do with marion being able to be the robin to wade and bosh's batman? i might be misunderstanding something here.
plus, i don't think marion fits in that "nicely." he's in his 30's now, so he's not going to be what he was in a system like what phoenix had. his shooting abilities are decent at best. the thing he's best for is defending SGs and SFs. anyways, there's no way in hell marion can be a robin when he can't create offense for himself. he's good, but he's no 2nd option type of player. he's the type of guy you add to your team after you assemble the major pieces (so he's worth no more than 8 million imo).
8 mill is the type of contract RJ got right? I'm surprised Raps are offering that much... plus aren't they killing their cap space? I guess if Bosh leaves, they can still through a max contract to somebody else... STAT? Sides Wade/Bosh/Bron, who are the top 2010 FA?
Lebron is such a joke. He saw how much everyone loved Dwight and Nate's routine in the dunk contest and had to horn in on it and announce 364 days early how he would participate and get the spotlight on him. Then he wips it all up in a frenzy and backs out like a chump. I've been getting tired of LeBron's junk for a while now. This is just another reason to see this guy as a chump. Great ballplayer, insane talent, total chick.
This a good move from Toronto. Bryan Colangelo may be trying to build the raptors like he previously did the Suns. Nash- Calderon. Marion-Marion. Amare-Bosh. Anyway you look at it, the matrix is an awesome player to have on your team, and this is a big league offer.

"Glue guys" aren't usually good second options on playoff teams, and they sure as hell aren't good options on a championship level team.
