I think your expectations for the weekend may be a little too high. It's a ****ing all-star game. Why are you trying to make it more than it is? I'm guessing it's just nostalgia, but most all-star games aren't as good as you think they were.

Last good ASG I watched was the last one MJ played in. Marion was out there playing actual D trying to lock him down, and it was a high scoring, but actual compete level game.


The shit they have now where guys move out of the way and let dudes dunk instead of defend is just stupid. If no one cares who wins, why not just call it what it is, a shoot around.

If it were two months after the incident they would have though. He's back "in" because the grammies accepted him, but if his first major mainstream look was the ASG people would definitely talk about it.

Could just do teams for 5 on 5 then. I just want player picked teams in a tournament. It would mean something to the players if they did that.

R-Star you're forgetting the spirit of the weekend like ATLien said. It's just a chillout type of thing. A break in the season, but instead of having nothing at all they have a sideshow to attract everyone's attention (and make money) and then players get drunk and half ass in competition for a day or two until the season starts back up. This isn't supposed to be some mega showdown or something.

Let's save the winning for respect for the 82 other games and the playoffs.

I don't particularly care about having a 3 on 3 contest, I'm just saying if you want something like that it'd be easy (and logical) to just change the format of the "Shooting Stars" competition and not change much else.

My only real problem with the entire weekend was the dunk contest gimmicky shit. Ideally I'd like stars in the dunk contest, but I'd be fine with scrubs in it as long as they give a good effort and don't put on a retarded skit before every dunk for "showmanship".

Meh, I don't like it. If people actually tried, I'd care again. I don't think anyone went into that gaming giving a shit.

Wade went in to looking for any shot he could to look like a tough guy, which is funny since hes a bitch, but other than that it was just guys going through the motions.


I'm probably just bitter George lost the dunk comp though, and that the competition itself was so terrible to begin with.

George calls dunk competition a “joke” and thinks league’s star players should take part

The consensus after Pacers practice Monday night was that Paul George should have won the Slam Dunk competition on Saturday.

George dunked over teammates Roy Hibbert and Dahntay Jones with his first dunk. He wore a glow-in-the-dark uniform and shoes and made a dunk (that was hard to see on TV) with the lights turned off with his second dunk. Then after several failed attempts, he made his third dunk while putting a sticker of Larry Bird on the backboard.

Still, George had to watch Utah’s Jeremy Evans win the competition.

Evans dunked two balls, which were thrown up by former Brownsburg High School and Butler standout Gordon Hayward. Evans wore a mini video camera on his ear during another dunk. And he jumped over comedian Kevin Hart, who is almost two feet shorter than the 7-2 Hibbert.

“(Not to) take nothing away from the dunk contest, (but) it was a joke,” George said. “I guess whoever had the biggest celebrity involved in their dunk was going to be the winner. I guess I should have tried to reach out to some people.

“If you leave it up to fans, they probably wouldn’t have known who Larry was. I think I was destined to lose it.”

Fans voted for the winner.

Coach Frank Vogel said he voted for George (obviously) and he also had some of his neighbors vote for the second-year guard.

One of Vogel’s daughters even noticed that Hart is a lot of shorter than Hibbert.

“The winner jumper over a short guy and Paul jumped over a tall guy, so why wouldn’t Paul be the winner,” Vogel recalled his daughter saying after Evans was named the winner.

George said he believes they should bring back actual judges instead of allowing fans to vote. He also thinks some of the league’s marquee players should take part in the competition.

“I agree, you have to have the faces of the league come back and get involved in it,” George said. “That’s what really made it big back in the day when you had Jordan and Dominique going at it. That was the All Stars and the guys that were the men in the league. That’s what fans want to see.”

George makes good points, but he really needs to keep his mouth shut because it's not like he did anything all that great. The contest was a joke and the fan voting is ridiculous, but George should not be the one making these points. He just sounds like a sore loser.

The NBA Slam Dunk Contest happened more than 48 hours ago. And yet, people are still complaining about it. At this point, we've heard just about everyone chime in with their advice on how to fix the dunk contest to make it more exciting next year (the key fix? Add LeBron!). But, until now, no one thought to ask a former Slam Dunk Contest champion like Blake Griffin his opinion on making the contest better. So ESPN's Arash Markazi snagged him to get his take on it—and he offered up some really practical, sound advice for the league. Mainly, he talked about how the NBA itself needs to ease up on all of the league-mandated requirements surrounding the contest that make players think twice about participating.

"It's an all-day deal Friday and it's most of the day on Saturday and you're there all night," he explained. "You have to leave the hotel three to four hours before and you're taking pictures and doing all this stuff and guys just want and need a break. It would be great if you could just go out there and [dunk] but that's not the case. You don't see all the behind-the-scenes stuff...I would suggest not making it so demanding. People think it's just the dunk contest and you just go out there and dunk but that's not the case. You have to do the practice Thursday night and Friday and all this stuff."

Wow. That's the best argument we've heard yet. And it sounds like something that could easily be fixed by the NBA if they want to improve the dunk contest and attract marquee names to participate. Now, let's just hope David Stern and the rest of the suits in the NBA's corporate office take BG's advice seriously.
