Then it's clear he's not interested in improving in that category.

And he's an abysmal defedner. Like, Nets fans can sit here and defend him all they want because metrics say he's a good offensive player, but the dude doesn't impact the game of basketball in a positive way. There's a reason he's never sniffed the playoffs and why he won't ever be a major player on a contender. Bigs that don't rebound/defend are essentially useless unless they have some other transcendent talent and there is nothing transcendent about Brooke Lopez.

He's an abysmal pick and roll defender and probably always will be, but he's already made improvements on his defense on the low block.

When he is 100% next season his rebounding will go back up to a respectable ~8 a game and now that we actually have other players who can score the ball, he should be able to start playing on both ends of the floor.

I'm much more concerned about his health and his ability (or lack thereof) to pass out of a double team.

Re: Brook Lopez 3.6 RPG

In my opinion any player over 6'10 that plays 30+ mpg shuld get 7.5 rebounds by just being there.. with basically minimal effort. Thats what lopez does and it should be very frustrating for nets fans cause with even a half ass effort at his size and athletic ability 9-10 a night should be very easy for him

He is an abysmal defender period. He's slow, soft, and unathletic.

If he's getting 8 boards a game then it means that a) the Nets have no other real big on the roster, and b) the Nets are terrible. Mediocre numbers on bad teams aren't impressive.

Everyone has already accepted that Bargs isn't very good, apparently the jury is still out on Lopez. I'm sitting here saying that we should have accepted that he isn't very good.

Re: Brook Lopez 3.6 RPG

I think some of you guys have your expectations skewed a little bit.

This year there are only 8 guys in the entire league averaging double digit rebounds (Kris Humphries is 5th, he helped win me my fantasy basketball league ), and only 25 players averaging 8 or more.

Thats a really good point actually, alot of teams will also send their guards into the paint while their bigs block out so their guards can board and get the break going.. its a different style of play today than it was 15 years ago

Smh @ soft. If you actually watched the dude play during the season when we had just 12 wins and he was the only threat on the floor night in, night out, you would not be calling him soft. I guess we'll have to wait and see about his supposed abysmal defense.

Also as BJ alluded to, it doesn't help Brook's case that Kris Humphries is a greedy mother****er when it comes to rebounding.

Re: Brook Lopez 3.6 RPG

But he's set up to have a traditional skillset and just doesn't. He's slow, not very athletic...we're not talking about some guy who puts it on the floor and scores from outside to where you'd say "he's not in the post enough to rebound", so that argument is dead.

I mean if you can work in the trenches to get your points why can't you play the boards too. Looks cowardly

Says a lot. How can you even be considered a threat on a 12 win team

Man please. Kris Humphries wasn't rebounding or even showing that prowess in limited minutes until he played next to Lopez.

Brooke is a princess. He doesn't play up to his size, he doesn't crash the boards, and he isn't a physical defender. The combination of those things makes one a soft player.

Are we talking about the same Kris Humphries who boasts a career rebounding average of 5.4 boards a game? The same guy who's career year rebounding wise before coming to the Nets was 3.8 RPG? Okay cool just making sure.

I wonder if something happened to Brook mentally. I mean, his first year in the league he averaged 8 rebounds in 30 minutes (82 games). His second season he averaged 8 rebounds in 37 minutes (82 games). But then last year he averaged only 6 in 35 minutes (82 games).
I'm pretty sure his parents found out they were having twins and decided on Brook and Robin, regardless of the gender.

His numbers definitely spiked once he got to New Jersey, but you have to include minutes per game when you're comparing season totals or career averages. Career rebounding average of 5.4 boards a game...at 17.7 MPG.

That actually sounds pretty plausible
