BBF 2000's All Decade Team
Inspired by this thread: http://www.basketballforum.com/nba-f...ou-choose.html
Simple premise. We are trying to make the best possible 10-man roster of players who dominated the decade from 2000 to 2009. I do not think we should require that the player fit into any particular positional requirements. Whatever 10 guys you think would make the best possible overall team, you post. Let me help a little. Here are the top 31 players in the decade (sorted by PER) that played a reasonable amount of their career (over 410 games - 5 full seasons) during that time period: 1) Shaq (26.5 PER; 662 Game Played) 2) LeBron (26.2; 472) 3) Wade (25.7; 596) 4) Duncan (25.5; 767) 5) KG (25.5; 769) 6) Kobe (24.6; 748) 7) Dirk (24.2; 792) 8) T-Mac (23.5; 671) 9) Yao (23.0; 481) 10) Amare (22.6; 434) 11) Brand (22.4; 643) 12) Pau (21.8; 584) 13) Ginobili (21.5; 478) 14) VC (21.5; 727) 15) Iverson (21.4; 682) 16) Pierce (21.1; 765) 17) Nash (21.0; 753) 18) Webber (20.9; 501) 19) Ray Ray (20.7; 728) 20) Arenas (20.7; 433) 21) Boozer (20.7; 432) 22) Bosh (20.7; 439) 23) Matrix (20.4; 745) 24) Cassell (20.2; 640) 25) Redd (20.0; 550) 26) Melo (19.8; 445) 27) Billups (19.7; 712) 28) AK-47 (19.5; 559) 29) Zach (19.3; 506) 30) Big Z (19.2; 620) 31) Kidd (19.1; 760) Also, take a look at the BBF 1970's All Decade Team thread and the BBF 1980's All Decade Team thread and the BBF 1990's All Decade Team thread. Vote there, too. EDIT: Everyone has pretty much picked Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Garnett, Kidd, Nash, and LeBron. That's 7 guys. You've got 2 points, 2 wings, and 3 bigs. Let's focus our discussions on the last three spots. How would you fill out the roster to end up with the best team?

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
I don't see how Dirk misses this team... or how Iverson makes it.

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
Webber over Dirk? Do you think the team has enough shooting and just needs more passing?

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
I thought this was the 10 best regardless of position? Why are you asking questions as if the goal was to build a balanced team?

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
Did you read the first post? The ultimate goal will be to put this TEAM against teams from other decades and to vote on who would win in a real series situation.

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
Yeah I must of glossed over the part about the goal. I just read the part about positional requirements. I would take Pierce and maybe Dirk as well off my team in that case.

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
The edit to the OP shows the consensus top 7 core guys on this team. Really the only remaining question is: how would you fill out the roster to produce the best overall team?
PG Nash/Kidd SG Kobe SF LeBron PF Duncan/KG C Shaq Nash and KG (and to a lesser extent Kobe) are the only consistent shooters in that group. Kidd/Kobe/LeBron/KG/Duncan already gives you a monsterous defensive line-up option. The team is also loaded with capable passers and smart basketball minds. I think the biggest weaknesses are shooting and possibly offensive rebounding. The easiest way to address the shooting concern, in my mind, would be to add Dirk. His defensive short-comings would always be covered up as long as you have him on the floor with Duncan or KG. You could also add great rebounding and even more defensive versatility at the wing position by adding T-Mac. I like a lot of the possible line-ups his inclusion opens up. I personally think the last spot should go to Ray Allen, Allen Iverson, or Dwayne Wade just based on ability. To me, though, Ray fills the biggest need because he gives you another pure shooter and a guy who will knock down clutch free throws. Let's do this by specific line-up configurations. Halfcourt Executioners: PG Nash SG Ray SF Kobe PF KG C Shaq Fast Breakers: PG Kidd SG T-Mac SF LeBron PF Dirk C KG All-Defense: PG Kidd SG Kobe SF LeBron PF KG C Duncan All-Offense: PG Nash SG Ray SF T-Mac PF LeBron C Shaq Closers (with a lead): PG Nash SG Ray SF Kobe PF Dirk C Duncan Closers (with a deficit): PG Nash SG Kobe SF LeBron PF Dirk C KG Rebounders PG Kidd SG T-Mac SF Lebron PF KG C Duncan

Re: BBF 2000's All Decade Team
Good point. Wonder how that happened. Thanks.
