Any big man with a pulse and a clue is worth the max in this league. At this point, Dwight Howard is underpaid no matter how much he is making and no matter how much of a diva he is.

Re: Nets re-sign Brook Lopez to 4-yr/$60.8M deal
They didn't want to give him that contract, but after missing out on Dwight, there wasn't any other option for them. They needed a center (and still need a backup) and other crap teams were ready to give Lopez the max. They had to match, otherwise, they are just wasting Deron's prime and the money they spend on Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace.

Re: Nets re-sign Brook Lopez to 4-yr/$60.8M deal
I think lost in all of this is how well the Nets roster compliments each other at this point. You've got one of the best rebounding SFs in basketball in Wallace who can also defend next two a decent rebounding SG and a great rebounding PF (if they keep Humphries or if they start Evans) to compensate for the lack of rebounding at the center position. They've got good outside shooting at their bigs from Teletović and from Lopez on pick and pops to go with consistent shooting from their veteran backcourt. They've got slashers, finishers, a table-setter, and at least 3 really good defenders in their 8-man rotation. I think they are better than the Knicks and the Bulls (sans D Rose). They might just wind up in the same class with teams like Boston and the Lakers that are nipping at the heals of the Heat and Thunder for the 3rd best team in the league.

Re: Nets re-sign Brook Lopez to 4-yr/$60.8M deal
Alot of what you said is true but the reason it gets lost is they spent so much money to seemingly lock themselves behind the Heat.
They might not even sign Humphries, I read they were looking at alternatives like Jamison and Kenyon Martin. |

Lopez being able to consistent score the ball against Chris Bosh would be the Nets' best chance of winning a playoff series against the Heat.

Locking themselves behind the Heat is better than having this entire situation blow up in their face.

Re: Nets re-sign Brook Lopez to 4-yr/$60.8M deal
Lopez really does one thing, which isn't something that the Nets are really desperate for at this point. He's not a particularly efficient scorer and now the Nets have other guys who do that. You'd be better off having a center who rebounded and defended plus the bench player you could add with the salary differential.

Re: Nets re-sign Brook Lopez to 4-yr/$60.8M deal
I think Brook Lopez is capable of being a more defensive player and also being better at grabbing rebounds(although he'll never be elite). He was asked to be the main option on some of the worst teams in the history of the NBA, now he doesn't need to do that and can be a 3rd option and focus a little bit more on other aspects of the game.
Everyone is acting like he's Eddy Curry out there, I think his game will be fine, his only worry is is health

When Gilbert got the Max he was coming off of a 28 6 5 and 2 season. Lewis i guess was a decent 6 10 guy that could shoot the 3 and grab some rebounds. But yah Lopez and Lewis are probably 1A and 1B
