Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
...need to know details of the contract before I get excited. Hopefully one-year or at least frontloaded w/ partially guaranteed future years.

You can only claim the years left on the contract, unless the amnestied player hits waivers.
Either way, they got a steal... Quote:

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
Elton is a nice bench big, solid additional for the Mavs.

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
Or the Mavs just bid for him, too. That's crazy getting Elton Brand for only $2 million.

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
Its possible, but Scola's min bid is barely over $3 mil per year and I can see the Mavs bidding that. Scola on the open market would be interesting.

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
I can't really see Mavericks adding Scola when they already have Dirk, Brand, Kaman, and Wright on the same team, plus draftee Bernard James. No reason to meet that 3 year/10M requirement and jeopardize future cap. Maybe Charlotte goes after him, they are apparently losing the Humphries sweepstakes. Otherwise, he could be on the open market, maybe going for a mid-level.

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
You have to put in a bid for Scola if you have the cap space. He's a very good player and you're going to get a shot at him for like 30 or 40 cents on the dollars

Nice addition for the Mavs. Collison, Kaman and Brand are nice consolation prizes.

Re: Mavericks claim Elton Brand off amnesty waivers
$2.1 million is solid and I'm glad the Lakers didn't snag him.
