Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
Mavs needed a two guard in the worst way.
It's funny, after starting this offseason hilariously bad, they've really rebounded. I've liked all of their recent moves. There's optimism in Dallas for the first time in months, people here are beginning to get genuinely excited about basketball.

Hell of a pickup for the Mavs.
Collison/Beaubois Mayo/Carter Marion/Carter/Jones Dirk/Brand Kaman/? Team is filling out. Feel like I'm forgetting someone.

Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
Brandan Wright is still there. Dominique Jones, SG, is averaging 25+ in summer league through two games. Bernard James is doing OK there too.
I think Mavericks might still try to bring back Delonte now that they've reached the cap (I assume they did since they only had 4 M left before this signing). Maybe get another big if they can. They can use their exceptions now too. |

Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
They went for an old team with no future to now having a young, fairly promising backcourt.
Add the Caveman to that and its a nice summer indeed.

Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
Fairly promising? They are fairly average, still fairly young players with fairly limited upside who will help to achieve a fairly decent record. Collison and Mayo are also fairly undersized for their respective positions. Those aren't free agent signings to get excited about.

Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
Mayo ultimately wants to be a point guard, so this might be something like Minnesota signing Billups all those years ago. I tend to think his best role is in JT's old role of combo guard off the bench, but I guess we'll see.

Re: TWITTER: O.J. Mayo to Dallas
Two weeks ago it looked like Dallas wasn't even going to be a playoff team next year. Now they look like they'll be able to push 50 wins. Not every team can be a contender.

Regardless of the lack of stardom brought in this offseason, the newcomers bring added dribble penetration, perimeter defense, interior defense, interior scoring, and rebounding. |
