Camelo Anthony - Hall of Fame chances?
This is something that may have felt if not crazy like a very long shot as recently as early this summer. At this point I feel like we need to start looking at the building international resume of Carmelo Anthony and ask ourselves - if he has a long and productive NBA career, mayyyyybe wins a title as a non-alpha player... Is he a Hall of Famer when you add in his play for the national team?
At one point you could have said "too small of a sample size." However... 2002 - 15.6ppg in 22mpg, best player for the junior national team that took bronze at world qualifiers. 2004 - Olympic basketball participant after his rookie NBA season. 2006 - Already acknowledged as a leader in international play, co-captain for a VERY young USA Team, bronze at worlds. ---Sets US National Team scoring record, 35 points 2008 - Key player and leader for Olympic gold medal squad, huge semifinal game helped put away Argentina. 2012 - Key player and leader now for a team that could win another gold. ---Re-sets US National Team scoring record, 37 points in 14 absurd minutes If this squad wins gold Melo will have 2 gold medals in Olympic play to his credit, along with a Bronze, and the only thing missing from his resume will be a World Championship - which he could choose to go for in two years. He's still young enough to make a run at another gold medal in 2016. Lets say he gets a World Championship, and USA Basketball wins gold this year and in 2016 with him on the roster. He'll have 3 Olympic Golds, and a World Championship - while playing a huge role as a team captain, and contributor. Hall of Fame? Even if his NBA career seems only barely worthy of consideration?

Re: Camelo Anthony - Hall of Fame chances?
His highest NBA individual achievement aside from the popularity contest that is the All-Star game, is an NBA Second team and 4 NBA Third teams and a Rookie Challenge MVP. So despite being perhaps the greatest US International player, hes got to do a lot more. If he could get an MVP, a ring, and a scoring title, at some point down the road he could slip in if his production holds tight for 6 more years. The only reason I say scoring title is for a guy who is one of the best hired guns in the league, and known strictly for his offensive performance, he has yet to lead the league in scoring.
His college year was legendary.

An MVP would go the farthest and would probably put him in, but I don't think one ring does it.

There's no chance he never gets in. There's little chance he's not first ballot.
I will say he's lucky he won that college title cause otherwise the perception of him would be waaay worse. |

Re: Camelo Anthony - Hall of Fame chances?
Reggie Miller is in, albeit largely on longevity. Hard to say that Dumars is better than Melo, even though I like Joe a ton as a player. As much as I think that Melo is overrated he's a lot better than Reggie. He is quite similar to Adrian Dantley as a player and AD did have to wait awhile. If you judge Melo against the lowest tiers of inducted players it's hard to not see him getting in.

LeBron is a superior player, Carmelo plays better in the USA uniform.

Re: Camelo Anthony - Hall of Fame chances?
I'm going with Carmelo has the same chance as Allen Houston getting into the HOF

I'm a huge Houston fan since I like any SG who makes a career out of shooting 3's, but come on. Melo is the better player.

Re: Camelo Anthony - Hall of Fame chances?
But does Melo have a rule named after him? Houston's contact is the reason why they created amnesty in the first place.
