Wilt at 36

Quote:
Wilt's head at the top of the rim with his hand STILL nearly reaching the top of the backboard - this virtually a 12 and a half foot reach despite knee surgery, arthritis, and 36 year old legs.
Just a little snippet for people who act like he was just a big guy who bullied midgets..I've seen people say he'd be an 18 ppg scorer if he were in the league...Shaq couldn't even get up like that at 36...

He could be a good scorer today but probably wouldn't be in Shaq's class

That's nuts. I don't care what anyone says, Wilt would be a beast in the league today.

Considering the tired argument of "well, if he played in this era...", please just imagine this:

- Get a guy who was an absolute physical freak, by basketball standards;
- The same guy who is shooting (and making) contested jumpers from the high post/top of the key, drilling bank shots on jumpers, fingerrolling plenty, posterizing Russell in dunks, blocking Kareem (twice in the same play!), firing outless passes from his low post, handling the ball like a guard, etc.;
- Get him through current food regimes, physical training, tape watching, etc.;
- Pump him full of physical-enhancing drugs (like Karl Malone and others #cough# Lebron #cough#)

And just imagine the player he could have been in the 00's.

Now, if we could only get him to pass a litlle (all right, MAJOR!) *******, what would we be looking at? Karl Malone's/Shaq's strenght paired with D-Rob's quickness, Hakeem's agility, McHale's footwork AND Chris Webber's passing?

You tell me...

Please watch the videos i linked.

Do you think a year playing with the Globetrotters wouldn't enhance his handle/passing?

Re: Wilt at 36

He would easily be the best big in the world today and it wouldn't be close.

I don't know if he'd be better than a prime Shaq or Duncan, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was.

Im not that impressed by the dunk but the block now? that lends credence to the talk about him as a youngster grabbing coins off the top of the back board

Re: Wilt at 36

Nobody said that he wasn't good. But he's not scoring 100 in 2012, not averaging 50 and 25 either.

So in that case, he was bullying midgets.

It's not even about 100. Some people in this very thread are saying he wouldn't be a top tier player in the modern era

Why don't we try the old switch-a-roo?

Why don't we imagine guys like Jordan and Lebron (for whatever reason he's been mencioned as an All-Time Top player) playing in the 60's/70's, (i) without. current food regimes, physical training, tape watching, etc., and drugs, (ii) with converse all-stars (iii) without being able to carry, palm or travel (to whomever it concerns, a Tim-Hardaway/Allen Iverson/Chris Paul cross-over would be called upon in the 60's/70's, just the same as Doc/Jordan palming) (iv) without extensive training work-outs (v) when smoking and drinking was the norm (vi) etc., etc..

Has anyone ever think about why it wouldn't be possible to have guys like Karl Malone and Lebron James playing in the 60's/70's??

By the way, is that an Armon Gillian avatar????? WTF!?!?!?!?
