Dominant Team Mentalities
So, there's a part of me that wonders what the mentality of dominant teams is like. Particularly a team like the Heat or Lakers right now. We've got the Heat - they won that ring, they know they have a good shot at the #1 seed unless they fall on their faces... Do you think the guys ever get together and say "Hey, lets have some fun - lets see if we can get Chris a 25-10 season." or "You know what'd be great? If Mario averaged 18 this year..." - or even just defer to the superstar "I bet if we work at it we can get Lebron a triple-double season."
With the Lakers... Kobe has a bunch of rings on his hands. Yeah he's championship oriented, but seriously do you think he's looking at this team and saying to himself "Nash is still Nash, who knows if it'll be like that in another year... I wonder if we can go balls out and win 72..." - and just attack with a team mentality every possible game. I know when I was in college running we'd do stuff like that before sectionals. Get to an invitational and the guys would work together to pace and carry someone on the team to a smoking hot personal best. Just because we could. So do guys in NBA ever do that? Especially on the dominant teams: just troll the statnics and get someone unexpected a ridiculous outlier season...
