I love the phrase "purpose of the entire thread" as if there is such a thing and it has been clearly delineated and articulated, that's fun

but since the OP has the 07 vers of Gary Payton at PG and doesnt mention anything about 'primes' I'm not sure there's much actual play there - we're making it up as we go along so I dont why why your version needs to be the final truth in the matter

You're picking players within a five year window but you're allowed to choose prime years that are outside of that window? That wouldn't make sense.

I mean if that's the case you can pick any of the recent superteams add in their token ring-chasing vet way past their primes and post

Rondo / Ray Allen (primed) / Paul Pierce (primed) / Kevin Garnett (primed) / Jermaine Oneal (primed) / Shaquille Oneal (primed)

Takes any effort and thought out of it and allows multiple franchises to lay claims to prime years that didn't occur w/ that team.
