Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
Ray Allen leaving for Miami needs to stop being a story. Boston had replaced him before he even made his decision. The Clippers cancelled his scheduled visit so they could pay Jamal Crawford. Miami was the only team in the league that made him their top priority for this past summer. Ray's already made all the money he'll ever need, so he went where he was wanted and would be able to play for championships. It wasn't any sort of betrayal, or cop-out, or fracturing of Boston's chemistry, it was just a "life goes on" moment where both sides were better off moving on. That's all there is to say.

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
Stop being a story? Season hasn't even started yet.
And to act like a guy who made up a "Big 3" that helped resurrect a classic franchise moving to said team's biggest rival (Lebron's team) isn't a big deal or shouldn't be a story is foolish. |

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
Yeah and you're misrepresenting some things. LAC cancelled the meeting because it was becoming clearer and clearer it was down to Boston (who, let's not forget, was offering more money) and Miami.
I tend to side with the crowd that believes Ray helps Miami more than he helps Boston. |

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
How do you figure Ray Allen doesn't care about winning?
Quote:
That's why you have a front office, to sell players on the team so you don't have to settle for inferior talent. The Clippers were the only contender in the running that could have offered him the option to be the clear-cut starter at shooting guard, and they have Chris Paul to get him the ball exactly where he wants it. Part of the reason Ray left was that Boston moved Avery Bradley ahead of him in the rotation, playing time and status matters to him. |

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
I don't think Ray Allen's signing with the Heat was motivated by some sort of "well, i will be a 7th or 8th player on the Heat, but a championship will enhance my legacy!" reasoning.
In all seriousness: when thinking about Gary Payton the basketball player, does anyone put ANY weight in him winning a championship as a scrub player in Miami?

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
But it's not just some roleplayer. It's one of the 3 guys that helped revitalize arguably the league's most storied franchise after two decades of sucking. Regardless of how far he's fallen, it's still a story in the deadest part of the offseason when a name like Ray Allen jumps ship to their biggest rival in the conference.

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
I understand its considered one of the bigger stories because of the combination of the rivalry and obsession over when Boston's Big 3 era would end. The media obviously oversells everything.

Re: Rondo speaks on Ray
Yeah and that hired gun had a solid case for finals MVP in the only championship the Celtics have enjoyed in twenty something years. I try to stay away from the narrative sports drama that is ESPN, but Ray taking his talents to south beach is obviously a story at this point in the offseason.
