NBA Penalizes Flopping

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/84...ayers-flopping

Quote:
The procedures likely will involve a postgame review of the play by the league office, rather than an official calling an infraction during the game, Frank said.

Players likely would be fined if the league determined they flopped.

The proposed plan mirrors a "postgame analysis" option Stern discussed after the competition committee met in June. The league already retroactively reviews flagrant fouls to determine if they need to be upgraded or downgraded.

"If you continue to do this, you may you have to suffer some consequences," Stern said about flopping during the NBA Finals. "What those exactly should be and what the progression is, is to be decided, because ... we just want to put a stake in the ground that says this is not something that we want to be part of our game, without coming down with a sledgehammer but just doing it in a minimalist way to begin stamping it out. And I think there are ways we can do that and we'll have to wait and see exactly what we come up with."
League is implementing a fines-for-flops policy judged and enforced by a day-after postgame analysis. Probably the best they could come up with. I think multiple infractions should be accumulated in the same manner techs are accumulated.

Re: NBA Penalizes Flopping

I've been calling for this for a few years now. Glad they realized the flopping needed to stop and that the referees are to incompetent to police it. It would have been real ugly if they had instructed the refs to start calling technical fouls on alleged flopping.

Good idea, if nothing, it will result in a 'public shaming' of sorts, likely discouraging some from repeating exaggerated flops.

I agree, flopping points need to be accumulated like technical fouls. Fine the players at first, but suspend them when they've exceeded a certain threshold.

Glad they're doing something about it, but the flopping will still be there until they start taking games away from them.

This is going to be horrible, and the Players Assoc. is going to get involved.

Chris Paul might as well just give the league his check...

Yep. I was going to mention him and Wade.

Can't wait to hear Dwyane pull some "It wasn't a flop. I had an ankle issue I never told anyone about and that's why I fell to the ground like a grenade went off and no one was around."

...this statement makes no sense. Battiers one of the few players in the league who actually does take charges and doesn't actually flop.

Despite Ginobili being a major flopper, I think this benefits the Spurs because of their wide open style of ball movement offense.
