A lot of people are oblivious to sarcasm. Some of the smartest people in the world can't understand sarcasm. It's actually a very common thing. Also considering how we're on the internet, sarcasm suddenly becomes much harder to understand, especially when it's typed in a serious tone like he did. And also, the ability to understand sarcasm has nothing to do with intelligence, this is very common knowledge, something that you clearly don't know about, which doesn't surprise me to the least bit.
