What are the Jazz doing?
I see they're hoarding expiring deals, and while I may be wrong since I'm no cap guru, it seems they may have enough room for 2 max deals, or at least close. Are they going after Chris Paul? Their biggest hole seems to be at PG for the future.
I'm just not seeing how they're going to attract free agents without overspending. I mean, its Utah, for one. Second, the young core of Burks, Hayward, Favors, and Canter is solid, but not something FA's will drool over. I'd think they'd be better off packaging some of the expirings to trade for guys on longer contracts. Anyone have any insight? |

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
I hope they're not saving up for a max contract or two -- Small market teams are usually pretty realistic about not being able to land big-name free agents
Probaby end up over spending on a borderline all-star to lead their team

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
Paul will be a Clipper or go to Atlanta, who is also creating space for a FA. There aren't any big FA's that the Jazz can use and who would go there.
They are just straightening out their payroll. |

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
I'm pretty sure they're just trying to make the playoffs again, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Enes Kanter go, both to get another quality perimeter player and to free up additional playing time for Derrick Favors.

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
They are being smart. Keeping around short contract guys while their Young Guys develop and when they do they can just dump the expiring contracts

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
Well, the contracts are expiring this season, so I guess what I'm wondering is if they're trying to trade those for core players this season or really going all-in in a weak FA class.

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
What's weird is that they REALLY needed a PG at the time too. And both Paul and Deron Williams were on the board.
Imagine how much better a Paul/Williams, Joe Johnson, Al Horford and Josh Smith team would've been?

Re: What are the Jazz doing?
The Jazz are doing it right. As a non-competitive team, their job is to save money. If I was the owner, I'd dump everything big and try to stay in the black for the next 5-7 years.
With talented teams like LAL, LAC, Houston, etc... I'd try to skate by every year as a borderline playoff team. The NBA is skewed now, so why bother trying? Just stay profitable, keep the fans from turning, and that's good enough.
