NBA Ticket Prices

Quote:
Interested in hosting a party for you and 16 of your friends at a Philadelphia 76ers game? If you've got $6.80 lying around, you're in luck, because a block of 17 tickets for Wednesday night's game against the Detroit Pistons was on sale for $0.40 a ticket on StubHub.

If your pockets aren't that deep, there was a pair selling for $0.10 each two rows up.

Ticket prices: Pistons vs. 76ersTicket prices: Seriously, 10 cents per ticket, not including the service charge and delivery fee, of course, would run you $9.95. So for $10.15, you and a friend could get in the door, where your chances of moving up to a better seat would certainly be pretty good.

If you don't want to deal with the stress of playing musical chairs, you could get a seat in the lowest level for about what it will cost you to see Skyfall. Two tickets, 23 rows from the floor, normally $39, you could get them for $11 each to see a team that last season upset the No. 1 seeded Chicago Bulls in the first round of the playoffs.

And the fire sale is not just in Philadelphia.

Want to catch the Atlanta Hawks? You can get in the door for $1 on Monday to see them take on the Orlando Magic. You can see the Sacramento Kings for $2; Charlotte Bobcats for $1; Memphis Grizzlies for $0.95; New Orleans Hornets for $0.94.

Wow. I had no idea things were this bad for some teams. How the hell are these teams making money?

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

Woah, that's incredibly cheap. It's better to have some money and fans in seats rather than an empty stadium. I'd be at every game if it was possible.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

Stubhub means the seats were already bought usually by season ticket holders and being resold.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

If you get them in their seats you can charge them 8 dollars for 30 cents worth of beer or soda, but this is just the initial bid on resold seats isn't it?. You bid a dollar and someone else bids 2 dollars...I don't know for sure.

No, those are list prices. Before the Bobcats were the closest team to me and it was great to get the sales rep to give me a 6 game pack 15 rows up for $45 a seat per game.

No such look in LA.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

Considering the Grizzlies could win it all, that $1 is an awesome investment.

Pacers' tickets are notoriously cheap, but not $1 cheap. If we keep it up they will be though.

No such luck for Brooklyn or the Knicks where it seems like they'll set you back $45 to sit in the ceiling.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

When I saw this, I was curious, and browsed Stubhub for Rockets tickets. Basically it looks like tickets are priced based on the visiting team. The lowest listed price for marquee teams (Lakers, Knicks, Boston, Thunder, and Clippers) hit you for $15.00. Mavericks and Spurs also hit you for $15.00 but that might be due to regional rivalries and displaced fans for those teams. The prices vary a little, meaning a good team on a Tuesday might drop to 12, but you get the idea. Low-seed playoff teams were running 7-8 and non-playoff teams were as low as 3 (Toronto).

This seems like the type of data best put into a 32x32 matrix of teams playing each other, but I'm not gonna go that far.

And then two shitty teams come over here and we have to pay a stupid price for seats in the rafters.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

If I were you people living in markets of less desired teams I would buy whatever ticket package you can afford (teams usually have season, half season, partial packages etc). You get the seats at a discount for buying a bulk amount of games. You sell about half of your marquee games at highly inflated prices and you can potentially break even and still enjoy some games.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

Yea I went to opening night in Orlando for like $15 right at mid-court. Cheap seats were like $2 or so. I was looking to go next Friday against Cleveland too, looks like it'll run me about $5 a ticket.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

That's the downside of a few teams having all the superstars. Hard to make money for games against bottom-feeders. You'd think teams would have to recoup all their money by overcharging games against Miami, NY, LAs, but even those prices aren't THAT bad, at least for nosebleeds.

Upside is that if you're a basketball snob like most of us are, you can prob get a cheap look at Kyrie Irving before he's a household name, or maybe an up and coming team like Minny or Golden State before people realize they might be good.

Yep. I moved out of SoCal in 2001 before coming back this year. My favorite thing to do everytime I was back home visiting was to get $100 together and get Clipper tickets in prime locations. Midway through Blake Griffin's rookie year that stopped being an option.

Re: NBA Ticket Prices

Bet the games aren't this cheap when the Heat come into town. This looks like a result of certain teams getting all the talent.

Some of the crappy teams are just a bunch of guys a year removed from college.
