Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
PHX didn't want to take him back at the price it would have cost. I forget the details, but their offer was less guaranteed money and I think there was an issue about no one wanting to insure the contract.

Too cynical of me to believe that may've been a charade for the fans, knowing he would get paid more elsewhere by a desperate-for-a-star NJ or NY?

PHX's offer was $56M guaranteed for 3 yrs and last 2 would be guaranteed if he played at least 20 mins. Medical staff reported concerns over his knee in the future.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
Funny how we can blame a player for taking "too much money" but we don't actually turn and point at the organization for giving out that money. Especially in situations when it wasn't a bidding war ie: Lewis Contract.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
I hate when people talk about what these players should or should not do without even trying to understand their pov. Don't seak on what YOU would do in your current situation.
If a team rang my bell and handed me a 100 million dollar contract, I'd take it knowing I wouldn't be able to live up to it, screw y'all. Anyway, I'm not mad about amare. He turned the franchise around. Real easy to forget what he's done for the team. And i dont think Carmelo comes without Amare here. Dolan can afford to pay him.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
Actually, we were trying to sign Lewis that summer if you recall DZ. No idea why ORL gave him so much more than we could've. We wound up with Ricky Davis/Smush Parker/Penny Hardaway, 15 wins, and a 2nd-overall pick that turned into one of the biggest busts in NBA Draft history. Not bad.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
Wasn't that just for the first three years he had to play in 60% of the available minutes in order to get 4 and the same in 4 to get 5?

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
Which is what I alluded to. They didn't just show interest. They flew him in and put a contract on the table. As I said, no idea why ORL went so much higher than what we could even offer.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason
I don't see how either of the trade possibilities mentioned would be considered "Giving him away"
