Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason

Quote:
This past summer, the Knicks offered Stoudemire to nearly every team in the league — “available for free,” as one rival executive put it. But they found no takers because of his diminished production, his health and his contract, which has three years and $65 million remaining (counting this season) and which is uninsured against a career-ending knee injury.

In February, the Knicks wanted to send Stoudemire to Toronto in a deal for Andrea Bargnani, a person briefed on the discussion said. But the proposal was vetoed by James L. Dolan, the Garden chairman, before it ever reached the Raptors (who would not have made the deal anyway, team officials there said).
Quote:
The Knicks have been inept with Anthony and Stoudemire in the lineup, going 30-36 over parts of two seasons and 1-7 in the playoffs. Advanced metrics show the Knicks are demonstrably worse — both offensively and defensively — when the two share the court.

Optimists contend that with Kidd and Raymond Felton running the offense, the Anthony-Stoudemire experiment could be saved. The repeated attempts to dump Stoudemire suggest that team officials do not share that confidence.
Full article

This is going to be interesting. I don't remember the exact argument Dre and I were having a few months ago, but this seems to back up my side. I really can't see it working. His attempts at offense would clutter them up, and he's not going to score unless they force it through him. If he's not scoring, he's a net-negative for the team and keeps them from having that extra shooter out there.

Not sure about this, though:

Quote:
It is a cruel crossroads for Stoudemire, one he never could have foreseen. He surely deserves a better fate.

Stoudemire was the one who planted his flag in New York in the summer of 2010, after every other star had rejected the Knicks. (He was in fact their sixth choice, after LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson, a person involved in the discussion said.) His arrival made the franchise respectable again, paving the way for Anthony, Chandler and Kidd.
It makes it seem like he nobly chose the Knicks to pioneer a path to breathe life into the franchise again. No. They were the only team willing to give him that absurd contract, and now it's creating an ugly situation. In the end, that contract did get them Melo, so in the end they'll take the move, but I reject the notion that Stoudemire deserves better for making any sort of proverbial sacrifice. He went to the money, and he'll keep that money.

It's his own idiotic fault for going to the Knicks in the first place. He should've just stayed with the Suns were he actually was meaningful for them, or go to the Cavs lol.

He's an idiot for letting the Knicks give him a better contract than anyone else would? That depends upon how you define the word. I mean that appears to have been a sound business decision. Well for Amare at least.

I'm sure the guy cries about signing that absurd contract every night as he lights up a cigar with a hundred dollar bill....

I wonder if a Pau for STAT would make sense for both teams.

Nash brings the best out of STAT but then again, Dwight might be a bitch about touches.

Re: Knicks Tried To Give Amare Away Over The Offseason

I think if the Lakers are going with the D'Antoni system what they need to do is trade gasol for wing shooters. And a back up centre.

Play MWP at PF. They need a SF who can defend and hit the trey.

Possibly getting locked into bad contracts but Prince and Stuckey for Gasol might be okay?

That actually makes sense in response to what I was saying. Not trade Pau for STAT because they are better off getting shooters.

No it was in response to Dee-Zy as he said.

On Amare I still think he is a good player but he too needs shooters around him.

Dear god in heaven, please make this happen. Now that Mark Sanchez has been benched I need more amusement.

Yes he is. Money is not an issue for NBA players, no matter what contract you have. I'm sick of people making these kind of decisions based off of what kind of contracts they get, rather than what would do them best in terms of where they can win or where they would be happy to play. I would love to be able to play in a place like Phoenix Arizona. It's an amazing city. And yet I guess Amare didn't have enough money even though he already had millions of dollars being thrown his way.

Don't try to talk to me about contracts when it comes to making the "smart" move. There's no such thing when it comes to this. You're making lots of money regardless, but somehow people fail to realize that.

Last year his 3 point percentage was lagging at like 20% for a long time. I think they need someone who can hit at 40% accuracy.

Haven't seen much of him this year but last year he was atrocious.

You fully do not understand NBA basketball. Firstly he's an idiot for taking the most money? Um okay. Secondly when he first got there he was an MVP candidate before Melo. Do you think he makes the decisions in the front office to bring in Melo and crew? Wait you probably do...nvm. Im talking to a wall.
