This. I'm 28 but I never saw Dumars play so I would go with Webber, he also revolutionized the big man position. No big man was that skilled and could pass the ball as well as him back in the day.

Dantley wasn't a great defender. Joe was granted.

Dolph in his prime played a different game. Rules were different, jump shots were just invented... Danny was a better basketball player than him.

And one of the top 5 perimeter defenders of all time has completely been forgotten... even in your post.

No, it's just that unlike you I know basketball history and I'm familiar with who Dolph Schayes is. The fact he was a late addition candidate says something in itself.

The bottom line is there are three members of the Basketball Hall of Fame on this list and another player who at his peak was arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA (Sidney Moncrief) and they are losing to Chris Webber. And given the age of the people generally posting on this board, among other things, it's very obvious that Webber is the only player for most people here would have some sort of frame of reference.

Players are being judged on their performances in their eras. The ambiguous "If I had a time machine, I can take this player out of his era and put him in XYZ era"-type of arguments is fallacious.

Dolph Schayes was a perennial all-star when he played. Danny Schayes was a role player during his career.

Your strawmans are pathetic. I don't know basketball history, I devour it. I own 4 basketball almanacs from the 70s and read them all multiple times growing up. Not to mention I'm 95. I clearly know who Dolph was.

I think you'll find that a majority of the posters here DO have a bias against pre-1980 players. So why tire yourself out and mention it every thread? When I was growing up as a NBA junkie I didn't have the internet, so I went to the library and read a lot of old basketball books, since watching games wasn't enough to fuel my jones. Now kids can just go read articles online and watch youtube videos, and I doubt you'll find a "top ten Dolph Schayes dunks" video.

I don't put a lot of thoughts into my votes, as I just votes for my favorites (see Horry at 5) but I do the texts in these threads. Thats the fun and interesting part.

But keep up the "old condescending know it all who thinks his opinion is so much better than everyone elses that he changes the color of his font to stand out" act. It adds character to the board, and I mean that sincerely.
