Charles Barkley and Karl Malone won league MVP awards and yet won them playing at the time that the greatest basketball player of all time(arguably) was playing and was in his prime and his team won the title the years they won those awards beating their teams on the way
what does that suggest about the objective quality of that award |

LeBron/Rose is a fun example for me. Heat didn't win the title, but LeBron shamed that award in that series, not to mention had a better season.
![]() So, hypothetically, if you believed a player had a better season than another player who won the MVP, would you still consider the MVP player to have had a better season because a group of writers voted him over the guy who you know had a better season? MVP's are nice, but they shouldn't be the difference maker between deciding which player is better. So because casual fans only remember the shiny stuff we should dumb down our analysis of who was better? |
