One of the good stories was that the staff would give Scott game tapes to look at, but they'd make sure that the tapes didn't start at the beginning, so they could check if Byron had actually played the tapes. Tapes came back unmoved from starting point (which was not the beginning of the tape) unwatched. Byron liked to golf, Frank ran the defense, Eddie Jordan ran the offense and Jason Kidd ran the team. |

Re: Avery Johnson fired
Im going to go with what knicks4life posted (do you have him blocked or something? because it's just a few posts up but you kept going despite your BS chips pretty much being called in right there) - his post has a source (some guy named Rod Thorn, you're a Nets fan so maybe you can tell me who that is since I dont follow them and know nothing about the situation)

Re: Avery Johnson fired
Byron was a lazy coach. It was widely reported at the time and was one of the reasons he got fired. He was more concerned with golfing than coaching. Eddie Jordan was the real coach of the team during the Finals years. Almost everyone knew it.
The Nets didn't have anywhere close to the same team in Frank's first full season. Complete nonsense. They had lost Martin and Kittles, their two best on-ball defenders and their two best fast break finishers. Those were enormous losses considering the Nets were a defensive and fast break team. Kidd was coming off microfracture surgery. The entire team was different. Scott was horrific at making in-game adjustments and making the proper substitutions. Kidd and Martin knew it and that's why he got fired. |

Re: Avery Johnson fired
Avery's a yeller and not that instinctive as a coach, he should to go to college, he's just not going to be able to treat NBA players like he wants.
And even if Deron didn't say "I want him gone" his well publicized differences with him was a huge factor so in effect...he did it again...time for him to put up or shut up after this off season. His elbow is still bothering him but after a summer of rest he's going to have to have an MVP caliber year next year to live this down |

Re: Avery Johnson fired
Sounds like people knew he liked to golf, and combined with the team's struggles assessed he was lazy. What evidence do we have that Eddie Jordan essentially coached the team during those seasons?
