Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
I guess KJ for now, but if Melo keeps up this level of play for another two years or so it will easily be him.
#8 will obviously be Kobe. It will be interesting to see if Kobe will best be remembered as #8 or #24. I think at #24 I'd go with both Moses and Barry over him. |

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
Normally I would say the opposite. He did what he did before the NBA finally gave in on the three point shot. If they'd given the Pistol the trey he would have been a video game cheat code.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
Was a toss up between KJ and Pete for me, but I went with Johnson only because I got to watch him and don't know much about the Pistol beyond his flashy highlights.

I'll go with Kevin Johnson on this one. Maravich wore No. 7 for only five years and into his third season wearing the number (1977-78) his injuries started derailing his career. While he was a singularly exciting player to watch, Maravich's style of play never translated into impacting his team's fate because he played like a guy who learned the concept of basketball in a vacuum. He and his father Press were the successful version of Marinovich family experiment -- the mad scientist father consumed with making his son a sports prodigy that they forget to take into account that it is a team sport.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
This has become deadlocked. I kind of regret voting for the Pistol. I honestly didn't realize how little of his career he spent wearing the number 7.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
I always kind of thought of the Pistol as a great college player but not much more than a Jason Williams as a pro (which btw white chocolate was electric for 2 or 3 seasons when he first came out doing incredible espn top ten plays every night but never really amounting to too much else and I never feared the Kings until they got Bibby because you could always count on white chocolate to pull up and launch a wtf 30 footer at exactly the worst possible time)

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
Jason Williams was a much better players as he got older. Hubie Brown really taught him how to play NBA basketball when they were together in Memphis. That being said, Maravich was a 5-time all-star and 2-time first team all-nba guy. White Chocolate was never in that class.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
KJ is winning right now given Najee's vote (though he didn't vote in the actual poll).

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
I'm telling you, J-Will grew to be much more than that as his career progressed.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
He was very much loved his first season in Miami. Started off tentative, but when he relaxed he became a great sidekick to Wade offensively. Beyond the championship year it was all injuries and "out of rhythm" games.

Re: Best Player to Wear #7?
White Chocolate was a lot of fun to watch, so long as you weren't rooting for his team. it's not as fun when you mostly want to win.
