Re: The one guy you can't believe still plays in the NBA...
Thank god Juwan is gone.
I have to go with Grant Hill. Not because he isn't good but because his career was suppose to end like a decade ago due to injuries. If it is just in terms of age, I'd have to say a toss up between Kurt Thomas and Tinsley. Surprised at Camby too (mainly because he was so injury prone for a while, I thought he was toast). Does Brandon Roy count? |

Re: The one guy you can't believe still plays in the NBA...
I think what we're seeing now with some of these formerly very good players finding ways to hang on in the league more and more of late. I wonder what the spread of 30somethings looks like now compared to in, say, 2000. I think that Grant Hill's draft class is looking more and more like the beginning of a strong era of older players. They hit the league firmly after the cocaine era, they came into a league that was really starting to refine off-season training routines, and as they hit their 30s the number of procedures available to save ailing legs expanded in a massive way. Guys like Stackhouse and many others are simply the very good players benefitting from that right behind Kidd/Hill/etc. - guys that never would have been lifers had they come into the game in the party-80s or whose legs would have fallen apart long ago.
Good lord, I want to see Grant Hill throw down a dunk on Glenn Robinson III in a year or two. If he gets to play against the son of the guy drafted just ahead of him in 1992 that'd be incredible. To see Kidd throw in a 3 over his fingertips? They didn't go #1 but man have they had the better careers.

But a decent number that are still capable of playing at an impressive level. I feel like it used to be only the big stiffs and the occasional superstar playing out as a lifer that still contributed at 38 or later. Seems like more than before. Maybe I'm just young.

Just took a look, none are left.
Looks like Shaq was the last one standing from drafts before 1994. Interesting, considering that you'd think a fat ass like him would be out sooner. Shows how great he was. |

East and West Germany reunited the year Thomas enrolled at TCU. Nelson Mandela was freed. The first Home Alone came out. Jrue Holiday was born.

"Still" isn't the right word, but did a spit-take when I saw James White playing for the Knicks earlier this season. Never ever expected him to be back.
