Hard to say. I was a lot more confident of the Heat making the finals last year than I am this year.

Plus they had guys like Battier playing the best ball of his life out of nowhere. Its hard to say.

Lebron will be Lebron. We know that. Bosh in my mind will either be his normal self which is one of the best big men in the league, or he'll go off and play even better.

The question marks lie with the rest of the team. I could see Wade going either way and could easily see him having the worst stretch of basketball in his life. Pressure seems to destroy Wade these days. Outside of that who are you counting on? Ray Allen seems to have fallen off a cliff ever since teams realized "Hey, Ray Allen is on the Heat? Someone guard him I guess.", and I doubt Battier is going to repeat what he did in last years playoffs. Haslem? Chalmers? Norris ****ing Cole?

Rant-end. Outside of Lebron and maybe Bosh though, there's a lot of question marks. That's the point.

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Not only are the Heat a lock to make the Finals, I think they would be even if they were the San Diego Heat and playing in the West. They're putting in the absolute minimal effort and still have one of the best records. They'll certainly have an easier time in the East as Indiana has been bit by injury and age finally overtook Pierce this summer, but that won't help the teams out West as they'll be facing a much fresher Miami team (otherwise known as the Showtime Lakers secret weapon).

If the Heat do cake walk to the finals and whoever wins out West has to dog fight to get there, that's a good point.

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

That was the Lakers big advantage in the 80s, the West was shy of real first tier teams, which left them much fresher in the finals, Miami doesn't need testing, they need to reach the finals with LeBron ready and able to leap out of the phonebooth with cape & tights and carry them over the finish line. I'm kind of bummed about the Granger injury as with a healthy DG I think the Pacers could have given Miami a run for the money.

I didn't realize Danny Granger was coming back. When is that happening?

It happened in the '80s. The Lakers would cruise to the Finals in '87 and face a Boston team that had been run through the ruins in the EC playoffs. Boston never had a chance.

I don't know. He's supposed to be back before the playoffs. At first it sounded like he'd be back around Feb, but I haven't heard anything in a while.

This. The Knicks, by herculean outside shooting, and the Bulls, if Rose pans out, may be able to upset them.

Plus, I could ride my bike to the games. I love the Clippers, but thats because of the San Diego heritage. SEND THEM THIS WAY!

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Not a lock, but I definitely think we've been coasting so far this season.

Teams with big rebounders will give us trouble. Indiana is probably the team I am most concerned about, then probably the Knicks. Chicago with a healthy Rose is also a very tough test.

We'll see I guess!

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Am I another arrogant Pacers homer? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, I think we would have the best chance at somehow beating Miami in a 7 game series. Don't forget that we held them to 77 points the other night.
