Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Just curious as to how this team is viewed right now. They clearly seem to be the best team in the East and it is obvious that most of the really good teams are not in the East this year. However at this juncture in time is it still safe to say that this team making the Finals is a foregone conclusion?

The big reason it was considered a foregone conclusion is the lack of a viable alternative. Not sure I see that team right now, but the Heat definitely look like a team that could be beaten in a series. Perhaps they'll just turn it on at some point, but right now they look less than invincible.

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Wait until after the trade deadline. It's still conceivable that a second-tier team in the East could make a major move.

I always go with the team with the most talent and experience playing together, and its unlikely any good or bad stretch before even the all-star break will change my opinion.

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

They are the closest thing to a Finals lock in the league this year. I'd say, barring a crippling injury to one or more of the big three, they have about an 85% chance of making the Finals.

It's the Leastern Conference again.

There's an Eastern Conference?

I thought the basketball schools planned on splitting away from it.

Still don't think much of the Knicks, so yeah, Miami's about the surest thing out there.

Somebody other than me better at least mention Indiana.

"Lock" is a strong word because this team definitely has its weaknesses that could be exposed...but I just can't see anyone in the Eastern Conference honestly beating them 4 of 7 times

You can talk about it, or you could just do it.

It will probably be Miami again, but Indy, New York, and a healthy Chicago all have a (relatively) small chance of an upset. And there's always injuries I guess. Gotta love the Least

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

Are the Pacers going to be the Heat in a 7 game series? Probably not. That being said, its not out of the realm of possibility. They just beat them and did so without their best player.

At the end of the day, a team lead by Lebron is hard for anyone to beat in a 7 game series. If he gets mad and decides to go off, there's not a hell of a lot you can do. Add Chris Bosh to and the Ghost of Dwyane Wade to that equation and they're still the scariest team in the league.

.....but they're beatable. They're definitely not a lock. Favorites for sure, without a doubt. Heavy favorites. But not a lock.

Re: Are the Heat still a Finals lock?

If they don't get any rebounders then I don't they're a lock. Still don't think that we could knock them out in a 7 game series, but who knows, Danny Granger could be unstoppable when he comes back.

Everyone keeps talking about the "Leastern Conference", but you just named 4 teams with a chance to make the Finals, I'd also throw in the Nets so there's 5. The Hawks are also a quality team, and so is Philly if Bynum's career isn't over.

Its not like there's any more teams with a chance to win it all in the West. They have a better middle of the pack, but that always bothers me because who the **** cares about those teams anyways?

Record wise the East holds 4 of the top 10 teams right now. So I don't really get the huge gap people keep trying to paint.

So they aren't literally a lock, but in the last 15 years, I can't think of a team I was more confident in making the finals. Except maybe the 04 Lakers.
