Re: Miami Heat Interested in ODEN

Really curious to what teams would be willing to pay for him. 4 mil per?

This is an interesting question. Kwame Brown is currently making $6.75 mil and has only played for under $4 mil one season in his career. Darko's lowest paid season was his rookie year (in which he received 2nd overal pick money). Young bigs with potential are highly valuable commodities in this league. Even more so if they were draft very highly.

Re: Miami Heat Interested in ODEN

It just a really unique situation, I'm more interested to see which team is willing take the risk, and how much they are going to spend on this risk.

IMO, if I was the GM I wouldn't spend more than 6 mil at most. And include TO's

I still can't believe that two obviously very shitty players are getting this much money. I wouldn't have Kwame Brown on my team if he was playing for FREE.

Luckily I think the day and age of taking raw big men straight out of highschool with top 3 picks is coming to an end.

You can't draft guys straight out of high school anymore, but raw big men in the top 3 still might continue if the circumstances some along. Hasheem Thabeet was only three years ago and Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter were both extremely raw and in the top 3.

I mean, would you consider Nerlens Noel polished?

I don't watch much college ball so I don't know about Nerlens Noel.

Thabeet was the last huge bust. That feels like longer than 3 years but I guess you're right. Its been nice to see him at least carve out a role in OKC. It was looking like he'd be out of the league soon.

Darko got a vet min deal from Boston before his decision to take his balls and go home.

I'm excited about Noel, but he is far from polished.

Rudy Gobert is going to be the big gamble this year. I can see the Suns doing something "smart" and picking him.... Nerlens acutally looks like he can play...

Re: Miami Heat Interested in ODEN

I think the OP is far too optimistic about Oden, and this is coming from a major Oden supporter. I hope he shows up light and fresh, and wherever he goes he needs to have a minute cap. I wouldn't let him play more than 15-20 minutes in any game outside of the playoffs period, no questions asked. Wouldn't let him play back to backs either, treat him like he's 34 and on his last legs. It's been so long since he played basketball at a high level, if he gets rushed into it I have little faith he won't fall apart in some way.

All of that aside, I'd love to see him be a 33 MPG walking talking double-double machine for the rest of his career. Not only to validate my opinions on him as a basketball player but, also for the feel good storyline (not to mention his quality of life going forward, wrecking his knees again might have him in a wheelchair before he's 35).
