So right now the Kings look like this:

PG Rondo/Collison
SG McLemore/Belinelli/McCallum
SF Rudy Gay
PF Boogey
C Cauley-Stein

If somehow George Karl can convince these guys that they have a chance at making the playoffs and get them all performing their best, they might be a decent team. I still don't see them winning 40 games, but they could wind up playing spoiler for playoff teams down the stretch in the west. Of course they do still need to fill out their bench with the right veteran role players.

With Portland very, very likely falling out of the playoff mix and with the Mavericks/Clippers in flux... teams like the Wolves, Jazz, Suns, and Kings will probably be scratching at the door of that 8th seed.

Karl usually coaches his teams to better than expected regular season records, usually followed by a huge fail in the postseason. Even though I think the Suns and Jazz have the best shot at the 8th seed, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Kings band of misfits pull off a miracle run into the playoffs.

I just did the math. With WCS locked in on the rookie scale at $2.83 mil, Rondo locked in at $10 mil, and Belinelli getting a reported $6.05 mil this coming season...

The Kings still have almost $12 mil in cap space under the reported $67.1 mil salary cap projection for this season.

Could they talk David West into coming to play off their bench? Maybe this could be the landing spot for Biyombo? How about Kevin Seraphin, Brandon Bass, or Ekpe Udoh? Maybe even Josh Smith to just add to the dysfunctionality???

Josh Smith is still on the market, Kings. What are you waiting for?
