Boston/Orlando Trade

Boston Trades

Ricky Davis
Raef LaFrentz
Picks #15, 24, and 25

Boston Gets

Grant Hill
Pick # 1

Orlando Trades

Grant Hill
Pick # 1

Orlando Gets

Ricky Davis
Raef LaFrentz
Picks # 15, 24, and 25

Why Boston does it: They made the playoffs last year without LaFrentz, so losing him won't hurt too much. They get rid of his contract as well as Ricky's while hoping that Grant Hill will be able to play this year. If not I am pretty sure his contract would come off the books like Terrell Brandon did with his knee injuries if he is unable to play again. Plus they get the #1 pick which will bring excitement to the city (even though the #1 isn't as good this year as it has been in the past) where they can draft Okafor or Howard to man the middle for years to come.

Why Orlando does it: The Magic have one priotity this offseason; getting McGrady to stick around after this year. Adding two veterans like Ricky and LaFrentz should help lessen the scoring load and help the Magic improve mightily over last year. They made the playoffs the year before last, and I don't see why they couldn't make it again next year with the additions of Ricky, LaFrentz and the 3 first round picks. I think last year got off to a bad start and everything snowballed. The Magic were not anywhere near as bad as their record would indicate. Plus those 3 picks bring depth and an ability to hit on some young talent in a deep draft that is not top heavy. So even if T-Mac leaves they have a good start at rebuilding.

What do you think?

Well if McGrady did stay, they sure would be exciting.

That deal would put Boston in cap hell until 2007. Hill will never play again.

Pierce, #15 and fodder for McGrady and No. 1 makes mores sense for both teams. If Orlando doesn't move McGrady, he's gone after this year.

No one is taking Hill, because his contract is uninsurable for any team except the Magic. Orlando is stuck with him.

i think this trade works both ways and actually ends up helping the magic because that goves then a big man and another scorer, then they can go out and draft a smart pg like chris duhon.
boston gets help but having hill on the team makes things horrible, but then again, it is the #1 pick, johs howard would be good but then i say okefor fits better in boston
