Re: PauloCatarino's Friendly Challenge (aka "I'll kick your ***!")

kflo's team is better. Paulo's team has a glaring (relatively speaking) weakness in perimeter defense, and kflo's team compliments one another nicely.

As for this challenge, I don't think the #2 AND #3 picks should go the person picking second. There isn't that obvious a #1 or that much of a difference between #1 and #2 such that the other person deserves the next two picks. Simply alternating back and forth to the end wouldn't make much difference, but if you want to include 2 consecutive picks, it should be done later in the draft.

Re: PauloCatarino's Friendly Challenge (aka "I'll kick your ***!")

I agree. The consecutive picks should come in the middle of the draft. Such that whoever picks first, also picks last (with both people getting 12 total picks).

But getting picks 2 and 3 seems unfair.

Re: PauloCatarino's Friendly Challenge (aka "I'll kick your ***!")

Sorry, kflo, but my team is better.

1st: there is no way this team is weak on defense, much more perimeter defense.
West was a good defender, and he would start as my SG. Then i've got Clyde, Hondo and Mocrief, all great defender.
Pretty tight perimeter defense.
Magic would probably rotate on defensive assignments, but is job would be to try and funnel foes to the paint, where this team will allow NO points (J/k).
do you think my defenders wouldn't gamble knowing they have Russell AND Wilt on their back?

2nd: Firepower.
Wilt, Bird and West are all dominating scorers, and you can't stop the 3 of them at the same time. And Magic delivering the ball IS the guarantee they would find spots to score.plenty of them.
My biggest knock is 3-point shooters, but Bird, West and Hondo were all good distance bombers.

3rd: Running?
Magic, West, Hondo, Karl Malone and D-Rob. This line-up will run endlessly the court. Karl and D-Rob are THE quickest players ever in their position.

4th: Rebounding/interior defense.
Russell and Wilt. Nough said.
But i still have Mo, D-Rob and Karl Malone.

5th: Championship experience.
Magic, West, Bilrd, Russell, Frazier, Hondo, Mo, McHale are all championship-tested players with incountable Big Dance experience.

6th and more important: Team Players.
Besides Mo, this team has no selfish bone in it's body.
All are capable of playing their roles willingly. And i've got great, great passers from all over the court. Wilt and Bird would pass from the post. Magic and and West from anywhere.
Hate to say it, but Russell is my key. Playing the four, he would concentrate on rebounding, defendin it's man and weakside blocking. He would have no troubles allowing Wilt to go crazy from the inside.

All in all, i think i've got a great team with multiple solutions...

I would like to see kflo's starting line-up, for i don't think that team could have much chemistry: 2 of the greatest ball-hoggers in Jordan and Oscar, head-cases like Shaq, Kobe, Payton, reggie and Garnett, who wouldn't be happy playing bit minutes... And the coach is terrible!

Probable starting 5:

Magic;
West;
Bird;
Russell;
Wilt.

All-Defense:

Frazier;
Moncrief;
Hondo;
Russell;
Wilt

All-Running:

Magic;
West;
Bird;
Karl Malone;
D-Rob

HAlf-court:

Same as starting 5

Gotta go for now. Can someone please put up a poll?

PG- Oscar Robertson, John Stockton, Gary Payton
SG- Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Reggie Miller
SF- Scottie Pippen, Kevin Garnett
PF- Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan
C- Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal

That team is just too ridiculous to deal with. I think kflo got you Paulo.

I think kflo's team is better, but not by a whole lot. However, I liked this point:

I'll elaborate on that exact point, wich i think it's the one that gives my team the advantage.

Kflo assembled a great cast of players. No doubt about it. But has he assembled a great TEAM?

When one looks on it on paper, it's like: WOW! How can this team lose? We've got a guy who would amass triple-doubles WHILE scoring like crazy, 2 of the greatest offensive players ever in Shaq and Jordan, Kareem AND Hakeem, and even some of the great new-age players in Kobe and KG!

But let's look a little deeper, shall we?
When talking about players in their respective primes, one must come to the conclusion that Oscar, Jordan, Kareem, Shaq and Kobe would demand the ball everytime. in their prime, they were ballhoggers. That's right. Do you think Shaq would ever be satisfied to putting up only 10 shots a game? That Jordan would defer offensive duties to concentrate on defense? That Oscar wouldn't want to score 40 a game? And don't even get me started on Kareem, who we had to wait till he turned 35 to see him defer in the game pattern. And Kobe? Yeah.

This line-up spells DOOM. Can you imagine Pippen playing point, crossing halfcourt and trying to call a play? He would see Oscar and Jordan in opposite sides of the court claiming the ball and Shaq shouting to get fed in the high post. That's what would happen, IMHO.

There is only one ball. Players like Jordan, Oscar, Kareem and Shaq later in their careers learned to share it... but only if their own spotlight didn't fade.

Since Shaq refused to play second-banana to Kobe, is there ANY chance we would play half a season with Jordan and Oscar?

I've got the humongous edge in team chemistry. My team could and would play as a whole. Russell primarily with the post defense, and Wilt with the inside scoring. Larry and Magic keeping everybody involved and happy, West with the gutsy, never-say-die example.

And in the bench i would still have Sidney, Hondo and D-Rob, who were absolute team players, and wouldn't mind playing 5 minutes one game with an specific defensive role, 10 minutes the next...

My point is: you can't pick 5 (or 12) great players and expect them to play as great in the same team. I would have no problems picking a guy like Bruce Bowen to my team, eventhough he is no Top-50 in the Nba TODAY.

i truly believe my players hability to play team-first, along with their winning experience gives them the edge.

I will wait for kflo to give his imput on this and then i'll proceed to explain the game plan and demonstrate how my team can't be beat...
