At his best, yes, Fat was an awesome triple double machine. He wasn't the playmaking wizard Kidd has been, but in my opinion he was the best true point guard ever to wear a Nuggets jersey (at least in the NBA era). He also was a better shooter than Kidd, but not as studly a defender. Lever was a crucial part of the Nuggets' playoff runs in the mid-80s, playing alongside Alex English, Calvin Natt, and Wayne Cooper.

You're right, my faulty memory.

Who's Fat Lever? anyone know

Most of it's been addressed already, however I thought I'd point out that Dee Brown is nothing like Fat Lever. The comparison by nbadraft.net is down right horrible.

at the time of the draft, i can see it. Dee averaged more rebounds than assists in college.

I'm not seeing it. When did Dee Brown average more rebounds than assists? Fat Lever was an extremely good rebounder, Dee isn't in my mind. Fat Lever was also a big point, Dee's about 5'11. Fat Lever was a triple double threat, I don't see Dee that way. Dee can push the ball, has great speed and is an extremely streaky shooter. He'll be lucky to accomplish half of what Fat Lever did.
That's a recently new report too, 6/5/06 I believe. NBAdraft.net makes crazy comparisons. Deshawn Stevenson to MJ?

Re: Who's Fat Lever?
Fat is oft forgotten.
I will always remember him as the best rebounding guard in the 80s.
At 6'3 he had several 20+ rebound nights. Incredible.

No, Magic Johnson was the better version of Jason Kidd.
Lafayette "Fat" Lever was a two-time All-Star with the Denver Nuggets. He was a combo guard who despite his size (6-foot-3) was an exceptional rebounder, in addition to being an able scorer and a sound defender.
Personally, Lever's rebounding numbers were a little inflated with Denver because of the team's frenetic pace and his teammates being otherwise poor to average rebounders. I remember watching Fat play on those '80s Nuggets team with Alex English and he was one of those players you couldn't understand why he was so effective but he was.
