IMHO, Penny is not on the same level with DWade. And if you ask most people about Penny, they will say "Whatever happened to him?", just like Grant Hill. I used to be the biggest Grant Hill fan, and his #'s were awesome, but Whatever happened to him?
Not on the same level with DWade.

Its win shares, essentially a measure of how many games a player won for his team (I believe a win share is winning a quarter of a game for your team or something). Penny has more than Wade. Interesting. I didnt notice that, and frankly wouldnt have expected it. With that fact though, to argue that its "not even close" between Penny and Wade is simply false.
Also something you have to note is that Shaq missed 28 games that season while Penny played every game. The Magic went 20 and 8 without Shaq. They went 40-14 in games with Shaq. Thats a 60.7 win pace with Shaq and a 58.6 win pace without Shaq. Now you tell me who was the most valuable player on that team. Actually Ill tell you. That year it was Penny.

Re: Wade Comparison
Doesn't PER take assists, turnovers, rebounds, points, etc. into account?
And are win shares really a useful measure of a player's ability? Just looking at some well-known players, it doesn't seem very accurate at all, and appears to be more dependent on the quality of the players' teams.

Well it is dependent on the quality of the teams to an extent because there are less credit for wins to go around when the team wins less games. Of course, last year the Heat won 59 games and Wade didnt even get 40 win shares.

Re: 05-06 Miami Heat worst champions since?
Didn't care to read the whole thread, but I did want to make one point. I'd rather be champs once, then the best second place team that has never won a thing.
**** that. Eat it. Smoke it. Do what you want with it. Truth.

True. If I were a Heat fan I'd be happy regardless of how this team compares to any other team. The thing is that you guys got very lucky in that you played 2 VERY good teams (the Mavs and the Pistons) but both teams played very much subpar in the series with you guys (and in the Pistons case they were playing subpar the entire playoffs too).

I would say Dallas' subpar play had a lot to do with Miami's D.
Pistons were simply not as good as their RS record would indicate. They got off to that great start behind their fresh starters but once the season wore on their lack of depth and jumpshot-depended style of play got exposed.

Well yeah Haslem did do a good job on Dirk. But other than that I dont see anything special about how they played Dallas. And even with Dirk he WAS cold. It wasnt just good defense on him. He was missing shots he was making earlier in the playoffs.
I dont know. I just dont think Miami wouldve won against a Dallas team playing as well as they did in the San Antonio series.

Yeah Nets could have taken the Heat, till you realize that no Jason Kidd lead team has beaten a Shaq lead team in the playoffs.

Re: 05-06 Miami Heat worst champions since?
05' Spurs. I think we match up with them the best, I think we'd of matched up with them the best this year. Saying we're not as good as them, or the 04' Pistons the year before that is nothing more than an baseless assumption.
Also, if I had to choose between the Mavs and the Spurs of this year to play in the finals, i'd have picked the Spurs.
Everybody said we'd go down to the Nets, then the Pistons, then the Mavericks. Dallas media even went as far as to call us unworthy opponents.
I guess the fact that the team keeps proving all the haters wrong, just keeps bringing more of it onto them. That's ok though. Heat are the champions, and we're not just gonna give our title up next year either.
We would have been right there with Detroit for best record if not for our injury plagued season. Luckily we got healthy and went 16-7 in the playoffs, including road wins against Dallas and Detroit. We played medicore basketball throughout the season for good reason. We played exceptional basketball in the post season. Weak champion? Weak argument.
