Yes and he did in only 33 minutes. For comparison's sake, Kobe scored 62 in 33 minutes against the Mavs.
Stockton's regular season career high is actually 34 not 36 against Sacramento.
Mikan's high is 61 points.
I'm not sure what Russell's career high in points is but according to the Celtics' website he never scored 50 points in a Celtics uniform. But since I often rank Magic higher than Russell I gotta go with Magic.
I don't think anybody mentioned Isiah Thomas yet but he deserves honourable mention (his career high is 47).
The best player today that never reached 50 is obviously KG.

I just had to chime in here since I like to consider myself something of an expert on Russell. Russell's career high in points was 37, which came against Wilt Chamberlain. I don't have my files when my research on it right now, so I can't provide the date.
And Russell's the correct answer to this question...

Didn't Wilt score 90 points in 10 minutes or something in highschool?
Wilt was incredible.

Not really.
I just happen to think that Magic Johnson was a better ball player than Russell...
