Magic or Jordan? Which had more impact on there own team?

In 1991 The Lakers were a 57-25 team. In 1992 ,in Magic's 1st year out ,they went 43-39 and slipped to the 8th seed. The Bulls 1st year without Jordan ,they finished 55-27 in 1994 and advanced to the Eastern conference finals. Had it not been for a horrible call on Pippen against Hubert Davis in Game 5,the Bulls would have been playing the Pacers in the ECF. Horace Grant averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds. Pippen averaged 23 points 6 assist ,and was a top 5 MVP candidate. BJ Armstrong was pitching in 14 points a game ,and you had Kukok ,Kerr and Ron Harper also. I think the Bulls proved that year ,that there talent was very underated. This does not mean that automatically Magic had more impact on his team ,but slipping from 57 wins to 43 ,is a big impact on a team. The fact that the Bulls were still capable of winning 55 games without MJ shows you that they had more talent then we originally thought.

Re: Magic or Jordan? Which had more impact on there own team?

when moses went from houston to philly, they went from 46 wins, to 14.

when david robinson joined the spurs, they went from 21 wins to 56. they won 59 games in '96, and 20 when he played only 6 games in '97.

celts went from 29 wins to 61 wins with bird. bird missed '89, they went from 57 wins to 42, back up to 52 in '90 with a recovering bird.

and lets not forget the bulls were 34-31 without jordan in '95, and a 72 win team the following year (adding rodman as well).

and lastly, pippen did foul davis.

The year they were 34-31 ,Horace Grant was not on that team. Im talking about the 93 Bulls without MJ in 1994. The 1992 Lakers had there exact same team as 1991 when they were 57-25.

the bulls added kukoc, kerr, wennington, myers. they also underachieved somewhat in the '93 regular season (they won 67 games the prior year), turning it on in the playoffs when they had to and winning the title. and they probably overachieved in '94 (their expected win total based on pts for / against was 50).

of course, there's no doubt that the bulls were more talented overall than they were generally given credit for though.

You are wasting your time elaborating this stuff...

Magic Johnson won 5 rings. And had like 9 Finals appearences.

This, in the Golden age of basketball.

What more can be said?

Re: Magic or Jordan? Which had more impact on there own team?

Magic was better. He had a bigger impact on the league and his team. He and bird set the tabll for MJ, they made people start watching the league only when they fell off did Mj ascend. Every year magic played they had a shot to win it all. no matter who his teammates were. Mj greatness is undeniable I just think magic had more impact on his team, the franchise and along with Bird the league.

I assume you're leaving out his "comeback year" (which is understandable...not exactly the real Magic). That said, it's impossible to know whether that statement is true, since Magic always had a very good supporting cast. I disagree that if you put him on the current Hawks or Blazers that they'd be championship-contenders.

Magic needed weapons around him to turn into a devastating force...he wasn't a one-man wrecking crew, nor did he make untalented players good. He gave talented players the best possible chance to succeed.

Re: Magic or Jordan? Which had more impact on there own team?

I wouldnt call the 1991 Lakers a bunch of hall of famers. Portland was favored to come out the West that year . The Lakers overachieved that season

C Vlade
PF Perkins
SF Worthy
G Scott
G Magic

Id take Cartwright over Vlade. Id take Horace Grant over Perkins. Worthy was not in his prime in 1991,he was much slower then he was in 1985 thru 88. Id take prime Worthy over Pippen ,but 1991 Pippen was better then 91 Worthy.

Statistically Perkins and Grant might look even on paper ,but Grant was a better rebounder, and way better de
