help finding race of former NBA players
This is somewhat off topic, but I am doing a research project on former NBA players based on their race. Does anyone know of the best way to go about doing this? I have tried to find pics of players and I have found many, but the older players going back to the 60's and 70's are much harder to find. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The question was in no way racist.
You're going to have a hard time finding those statistics. Your best bet would probably be to look through team photos I guess. You said you'd already looked through photos though. I can't think of anywhere which actually lists the race of a player.
Perhaps if you list all the players you are still wondering about people around here could help out?
What exactly are you trying to prove through your research?

Re: help finding race of former NBA players
I think the idea of the project is a bit racist though....but good in theory. Sticking to this theory, I was actually thinking about something similar to this the other night. Who would win....
All White Team
C. Bill Walton
PF. Kevin McHale
SF. Larry Bird
SG. Jerry West
PG. Steve Nash (woulda been Jason Kidd, but he's half and half)
versus
All Black Team
C. Shaq O'Neal
PF. Karl Malone
SF. Scottie Pippen
SG. Michael Jordan
PG. Allen Iverson

Me stepping on a "black" cockroach nowadays can be considered racist. I would suggest massive amounts of googling and yahoo. Try google image, and Yahoo image. You may be able to find some statistics using specific words in google or yahoo.

How are you sticking to any theory? No theory for his research was given, and somehow you feel that an all-black vs. all-white game is connected?
Asking for the race of players from the '60s and '70s is not racist at all. To call someone out for being racist when there is no racism involved is ignorant. Perhaps you should get re-aquainted with the definition of racism.
He hasn't given us an idea behind his research, so how on earth can it be deemed racist?

Re: help finding race of former NBA players
I'm with Lachlanwood32 on this one. How is it racist? The original poster hasn't said anything about players of any race/nation/skin color/ethnicity. Simply having the capability to discern between one and the other doesn't make one racist - or else anyone calling the original poster racist must be racist as well!

Basketball-reference.com doesn't have photos, but it does tell you where a player was born. You can click on the birthplace and see all the players who were born there.

Re: help finding race of former NBA players
yeah yeah, alright I get it. Im no anti-racist person or anything, I was just saying that it kinda seems like a futile thing to be researching, since it makes no impact what-so-ever to the game, past present or future. However in a completely non-racist sense, its clearly obvious that African Americans are easily the superior race when it comes to this game we love as a whole - and yes, I know Nash won MVP 2 years in a row, and Dirk should have been a close 2nd (if not 1st), but in general...well.....white men cant jump (or play ball). By the way, Im white, before anyone jumps on me again.
