Re: Who is the most overated player ever in NBA history?
Kobe Bryant: a top 20-25 all-time and top 3 current player (i.e., someone who doesn't need any overrating) whom people will overrate grotesquely and make the most absurd statements about.

Sure: Allen Iverson, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Dr. J.

Some of these selections I've read for most overrated player in NBA history are dubious, to say the least. Here is my recommendation:
K.C. Jones was a decent role player, but because he played on Bill Russell's teams in college and the NBA he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Jones was known as a solid defender, but it's hard to make a case for someone with career averages of 7.4 points, 4.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting .387 FG and .647 FT being considered one of the sport's greatest players.

Wrong, a person can't really be considered the most overated in history if you can make a valid case for mose of the "absurd statements" made about them. Thus, Kobe doesn't belong anywhere near this category.

Allen Iverson has led the NBA in steals twice and has been in the top 10 in this category every year in his NBA career. Larry Bird was a three-time choice for the NBA's All-Defensive team. Julius Erving and Moses Malone were sound defenders and Charles Barkley was hardly a sieve (though maybe not as good as he thought). Magic Johnson slowed down defensively in his later years but he was solid in his earlier days and is still 14th all time in steals.
Steve Nash is IMO the worst defender ever to be named league MVP and typically a league MVP has been a good defender.
