Your Top 5 Centers Ever?
There have been a lot of talented centers going back to the 1960s when it was Chamberlain vs Russell. If you had to name your all time top 5 who would they be? Mine would be
1. Kareem Abdul Jabbar - 6 time NBA Champion. Won the Regular Season MVP 6 times. The guy was averaging 23 points a game in 1986 at 39 years old,and put up 40 points (Twice) against Ralph Sampson and Akeem that regular season.
2. Akeem - 2-time NBA Champion. Defensive 1st team multiple times. Probably the most underated big man of all time.
3. Shaq - 4-time NBA Champion. Led the Lakers and Heat to titles. Talent wize,he easily could be 1# ,but he didnt maximixe his potential to the fullest. Had he stayed in great shape year after year,he easily could have won 7 or 8 titles.
4. Wilt - I got him this low because i dont think he faced great competetion at the center position. I have watched a lot of his games on Classic sports, and he was simply way before his time. He was bigger then everyone else, and the athletic ability was kinda lacking at that position in the 1960s. He averaged 50 points in a season, and is the only player to ever score 100 points in a game.
5 Bill Russell - i got him this low because i think the centers above have more of a ability to carry a weaker team if they were on a weaker team because of there offensive abilities. Russell though was one of the best defensive big man to ever play the game.

Can't argue with that. I'd have Shaq first and move down the others.

Re: Your Top 5 Centers Ever?
How quickly we forget. I hate Shaq, but I still respect him as the greatest of all time. The man is a physical specimen, and even now in his twilight, no one has yet to come close to the mix of physicality and skill he brings to the game.
1) Shaq
2) Wilt
3) Dream
4) Jabbar
5) Russell

no Nate Thurmond? I'd say he was as good as Reed, Unseld and Laimbeer.
