Re: Heir to the Throne
He was pretty good, but he is gone. I don't think he is far enough out of anyone's mind to where we need tribute threads, as if we'd forgot about him.

Re: Heir to the Throne
"Or this guy . . . .
Came to a franchise who had never won much for their All-star center and previous 1st round draft pick (both of whom ended in HOF) and immediately won the NBA title, following it with 11 NBA championships in 13 years despite changing every single player on the roster but himself over that time. Carried a group of teammates to Hall of Fame as well (Havlicek and Cousy deserved it, Sam Jones at best a maybe, Heinsohn, KC Jones, Bill Sharman and Frank Ramsey . . . well . . . . Russell carried them to the Hall of Fame with his winning). The most dominant player of all time, see the previous post; the greatest winner Bill Russell, the 2nd greatest winner and best shooting guard but far from the most statistically dominant player, Michael Jordan. GOAT wasn't decided when the great centers were playing, it isn't decided now (Kareem gets a mention too).

It'll probably happen, but I doubt it'll be anytime soon.
Who do you think will pass him out of current players? Kobe is the closest to MJ in the League now, he's been playing over 10 years, and he still isn't close to MJ in terms of accomplishments.

With the way some fans discredit him (see the recent Pippen thread), no, I think we do need tribute threads.
